Job Title: Goalie Coach / Instructor - Muskoka Hockey Day Camp
Job Overview
Muskoka Hockey is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Seasonal Goalie Coach to support the development of goaltenders within our spring and summer programs. This role is integral to delivering position-specific instruction, fostering confidence, and creating a high-performance yet supportive training environment for goalies of varying ages and skill levels. The position is ideal for individuals with a strong goaltending background who are passionate about mentoring athletes and advancing technical and tactical proficiency.
Responsibilities
Goalie Development & On-Ice Instruction
- Plan and deliver position-specific training sessions focused on skating mechanics, edge control, save selection, rebound management, puck tracking, and game situational play.
- Integrate goalies into team drills while ensuring their technical needs are addressed.
- Provide individualized feedback and progression plans to support long-term development.
Program Support & Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with head coaches and skills instructors to align goalie training with overall practice objectives.
- Assist in designing goalie-specific stations during camps, clinics.
- Support evaluations and provide input on goalie performance and readiness.
Safety & Athlete Management
- Ensure a safe training environment by monitoring drill design, shot volume, and fatigue management.
- Reinforce proper warm-up, cooldown, and injury-prevention practices.
- Uphold program standards and protocols to maintain a structured and professional environment.
Mentorship & Leadership
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, resilience, and sportsmanship.
- Build trust with athletes and foster confidence in high-pressure game situations.
- Encourage a growth mindset and strong work ethic among goaltenders.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff regarding goalie development and expectations.
- Provide constructive feedback and progress updates when appropriate.
- Contribute to a cohesive and collaborative staff culture.
QualificationsGoaltending Expertise
- Competitive playing experience as a goaltender and/or experience coaching goalies.
- Strong understanding of modern goaltending techniques, tactics, and development pathways.
Instruction & Leadership
- Ability to teach and demonstrate technical skills in a clear, age-appropriate manner.
- Proven ability to motivate, mentor, and manage athletes in a team environment.
Communication Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to connect with athletes across a range of ages and skill levels.
Professionalism & Reliability
- Dependable, organized, and punctual.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic camp and event environments.
Safety Awareness
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive training environment.
- First aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
- NCCP Training Preferred
Schedule & Commitment
This is a seasonal role aligned with Muskoka Hockey’s spring and summer programming. Coaches are expected to commit to scheduled training sessions, events, and any required staff preparation periods.
