Summary:
Under the supervision of the Sailing School Manager, this position entails teaching, coaching and fully certifying students according to the Sail Canada standards. This involves working hand in hand with other instructors and volunteers to run a safe and fun Summer Programs at the Kelowna Yacht Club. We are looking for a instructor who is passionate and knowledgeable about the sport and dedicated to providing safe and fun instruction for young watersport campers. Our ideal candidate is a good team player and able to collaborate with follow instructors but is also capable of working independently running their own lessons. Responsibilities:
- Teach Go! Day Camp, Watersports Camps Programs and Private/Group Lessons
- Coach in a professional manner
- Provide ongoing feedback to athletes including progress reports, and end of session interviews
- Disseminate regular communications to athletes and parents
- Submit a curriculum plan and daily lesson plans
- Provide supervision during athlete arrival and departure
- Participate in daily staff meetings
- Perform daily opening and closing duties, maintenance and cleanliness of kayaks, paddleboards, tubes, coach boat fleet, coaching equipment, instructional spaces, and physical areas
- Provide an inclusive, welcoming, and flexible learning environment for all participants
Pre-requisites:
- Be age 16 years or older
- Be available from June 30 to August 29, 2025
- Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card
- Coach boat safety certification
- First Aid Certificate (Minimum Emergency Level ‘’C’’ with CPR)
- VHF Maritime Radio certificate an asset
- WSWBC Coaching Certification an asset
_ *The Kelowna Yacht Club may be able to assist you in attainment of these qualifications prior to the start of the season. Candidates with racing experience and a working knowledge of CHECKLICK web-based software, will be given special consideration.*_
Schedule: Seasonal (July-August, Full Time) - Optional additional work on evenings and weekends spring/fall with private lessons, sailing team and rentals
