Position Summary

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Engineering Department. This role will focus on supporting the structural design of our engineered solutions utilizing Autodesk Inventor, along with other tools in the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection (PDMC).

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Engineering. They will work most closely with other members of the Engineering Department to develop robust structural components, ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, and client requirements. They will work collaboratively with other departments—Marketing & Sales, Finance, Project Management and Production—to conceptualize, plan, organize and coordinate engineering-related objectives for our clients’ projects. They will be encouraged to participate in supporting Parklane’s numerous initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The following list includes foundational responsibilities. And, as with every role at Parklane, the successful candidate will appreciate a great breadth of challenges in working with all departments and through many stages of each of our projects.

  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to conceptualize, develop, and refine structural designs for noise control and vibration isolation solutions.
  • Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor, and PDMC tools.
  • Perform structural analysis to validate design integrity, safety, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Support the integration of structural components with mechanical and acoustical designs.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of engineering solutions, including calculations, models, and production drawings.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including reports, specifications, and as-built records.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams—Sales, Project Management, and Production—to ensure successful project execution.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Stay informed on industry standards, building codes, and advancements in structural design technology.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet project deadlines—by preparing proposals, submittals, presentations, reports, close-out documents, engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Support projects by completing on-site work (e.g., coordination, meetings, inspections, measurements).
  • Maintain a practice of professional development, including knowledge of Parklane’s complete line of product and services, industry standards and codes, technical tools required for the job and advancing technologies.
  • Maintain awareness of cost-implications of proposed engineering solutions (in terms of design-related decisions implicating structural, product, assembly propositions).
  • Aid in the influence of positive change, innovation, and technical growth in the Engineering Department (Project & Services Engineering, and Design & Technical Engineering groups).

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in structural design and analysis; experience in noise control or vibration isolation is a strong asset.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and familiarity with the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, including statics and dynamics.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production methods related to structural components.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Additional Assets:
  • Familiarity with aero-vibro-acoustical engineering principles.
  • Experience with computational modeling tools and simulation software (e.g., SAP2000, PILE, SAP200, RISA, RFEM).
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international building codes and standards.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with occasional site visits and client meetings.
  • Use hands to operate computer and various measuring devices.
  • Standard working hours with flexibility for project demands.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to climb stairs and service ladders.
  • Travel may be required for site assessments or inspections.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and participation in the performance bonus program.
  • A 100% employer-paid benefits program.
