The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing team of professionals. This position reports directly to the Managing Partner and works very cooperatively with the small business clients and provides accurate accounting and tax information to the clients and their external accounting firms.

This position is responsible for performing QBO & QB Desktop Accounting Assessments, handle the onboarding of new clients, implementation of internal systems, completion of month, year ends & corporate tax returns and supporting our clients throughout the month. In addition, you will be performing a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, and financial tasks to support each client and ensures the daily accounting functions run accurately and efficiently.

Reporting to the Managing Partner, you will be responsible for:

1. Contribute to excellence in Client Experience, resulting in A ratings from clients in our quarterly check-ins and 5-star Google Reviews

  • Proactively interact with Clients through regular telephone calls or email
  • Report Client Status on a regular basis to the Managing Partner using ClickUP

2. Within 30 days, be able to complete all day to day accounting tasks and produce month-end financial statements, under supervision

  • Month-ends completed by the 20th day of the following month
  • 100% Compliance with tax and payroll deadlines (including HST, instalments, payroll taxes, payroll, T5018)

3. Within 60 days, liaise directly with Clients, completing all accounting, payroll and tax tasks. Send monthly financials to Clients as well as directly provide support to clients as needed

4. Within 120 days, create a formal system for Compilation engagements with required checklists and working papers. Complete Client year end files, compilation financial statements and T2 corporate tax returns, for Managing Partner's review

5. Within 180 days, create a formal system for personal tax returns for the upcoming 2023 personal tax return season. Complete T1 personal tax returns for clients, for Managing Partner's review.

6. At, or before, 365 days, be a valued and trusted member of the team who delivers as required and is a valuable partner to Clients. Continue to suggest improvements for internal processes and systems.

About You

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or CPA
  • You have 3+ years experience working in an Accounting Firm working with small businesses
  • You have 5+ years hands-on experience working in a full cycle accounting & preparing corporate T2's
  • You are a whiz with QBO, QB Desktop & Microsoft Office Excel, and are always eager to learn new technologies
  • You have a focus on building and managing meaningful internal and external client relationships
  • You have an insatiable curiosity to learn more and apply your technical knowledge to identify issues and offer recommended solutions for both your clients and co-workers
  • You have excellent time management and organizational skills to juggle multiple deadlines and engagements
  • Construction industry related experience, project based accounting experience considered an asset
