The opportunity:

The Marketing and Sales Supervisor has the key responsibility for ensuring that Press meets its ongoing book sales and revenue goals, and that its marketing and sales activities are undertaken on budget and on schedule. This role is responsible for developing the Press's overall sales and marketing strategies, and for planning, organizing, and overseeing all of the Press's sales and marketing activities to ensure that the Press's books reach the largest possible national and international readership.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

· Undergraduate degree in a related discipline required (humanities or social sciences).

· A degree in a field connected to the areas in which the Press publishes (e.g. Native studies, Canadian history, English) would be an asset.

· A minimum of two years of experience in book publishing or a related field, with extensive experience in book sales and marketing, is required.

· Experience with Google Analytics, Onix, website maintenance, and e-books would be an asset.

· An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

· Knowledge and experience in book marketing practices is essential.

· Superior interpersonal skills, the ability to work with others, exercising diplomacy and tact at all times, is essential.

· Organization and problem-solving skills are essential.

· A thorough knowledge of the basic features of the Canadian book market, and of book marketing and promotion techniques is essential.

· Proficiency in the use of a computer (preferably Macintosh) required.

· Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, spreadsheet, and database programs is required.

· Must have the capacity to make independent decisions that will have an immediate and critical impact on the Press's finances.

· Must be able to take responsibility and manage all stages of book marketing and sales, to manage freelancers, to make decisions and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of people (authors, sales reps, customers, co-workers).

· Must be able to work independently as a key part of the Press's publishing team which considers all aspects of publishing (editorial, design, production, marketing, and sales) in order to reach the Press's editorial and financial goals.

· Must be able to work under tight deadlines for book marketing, sales, and publicity.

· Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
