Emery-Keelesdale Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (EKNPLC) offers a new model of primary care provision in which Nurse Practitioners coordinate patient care within a collaborative and vibrant interdisciplinary team environment. As part of our commitment to a philosophy of Primary Health Care we emphasize connecting and coordinating services within the health care system to those from other sectors to address the broader social determinants of health. The clinic operates from both a main site and a satellite site to offer services to individuals living in the North York West community.

Summary of Position

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Emery-Keelesdale Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic will primarily facilitate the flow of patients during NP, MD and RN clinics. This includes biometrics, recording the client’s presenting complaint and administration of medications or vaccines as prescribed by the NP. The RPN will ensure infection control measures are taken between patients and at the end of clinical day. However the RPN may be requested to participate in telephone triage, clinical intakes, clinical data management or other duties as required.

Summary of Responsibilities

We are looking to hire experienced, certified Registered Practical Nurses (RPN)—to collaborate closely within a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to providing optimal patient care. RPN is responsible for providing basic nursing care, comfort, and emotional support in a culturally sensitive and unbiased manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Remaining current with the medical research, technological developments, and professional practices relevant to fertility and reproductive endocrinology
  • Delivering client care according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice in an inter-professional shared care case management model
  • Providing patients with clear and concise information prior to the commencement of their treatment plans
  • Providing patients with advice and emotional support—in a culturally sensitive and unbiased manner throughout their treatment
  • Liaising with staff from both sites units to coordinate cycle booking procedures at Eglinton Location
  • Taking an active role in department policies, processes, and procedures and—in conjunction with other team members—providing for optimum patient care
  • Applying accepted and validated research and evidence-based nursing practices—in accord with Emery Keelesdale NPLC code of ethics and standards
  • Maintaining the quality systems relevant to the processes performed in the Cycle Monitoring Department
  • Assess patient health care needs (physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual) to identify appropriate nursing interventions
  • Assist with physical examinations, well baby/ child care and chronic disease management
  • Providing patients with advice and support, and ensuring that their rights of confidentiality and privacy are protected
  • Pursuing greater professional proficiency through higher education research and practices
  • Respecting each patient’s cultural and spiritual needs with tact and compassion
  • Adhering to the terms and conditions of employment as stated in the clinic policies
  • Seeing to it that all patient records and entries are clearly kept—making certain they are accurately and legibly signed and dated
  • Participating in ongoing training as required—including fire safety, WHMIS, infection control, hygiene, and emergency response and disaster planning
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Bring to Emery Keelesdale NPLC

  • Minimum one to two-years’ nursing experience (preferably in Primary Care)
  • Two-year Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited college, and must successfully complete the national licensing exam
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills i.e., helpful, professional demeanor
  • Accustomed to remaining calm under pressure, and with exercising the utmost discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Autonomous and able to function with minimal supervision
  • An understanding of management of chronic health conditions
  • Must have working knowledge of an anti-oppression / pro-diversity framework
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Willingness to expand and adapt the Role as our clinic adds additional procedures and treatments.
