Join Lyackson First Nation—A Nation, Building a Nation – as our new Receptionist!
Are you a welcoming, organized, and community-minded individual looking to grow your career in administration? As a full-time Receptionist with Lyackson First Nation, you’ll be the welcoming face of our Administration Office — supporting day-to-day operations and helping ensure our work flows smoothly and respectfully. This is more than just an office role — it’s a chance to contribute to Nation-building, grow your skills, and be part of a team grounded in values, relationships, and responsibility to the land and people.
About Us:
Lyackson is a “Nation building a Nation.” As one of five modern communities of the historic Quw’utsun Nation, we are strong, innovative, and deeply committed to reclaiming our stewardship roles. Our reserve lands are located on Leey’qsun (Valdes Island), and our Administration Office is situated just north of Duncan, BC, on Halalt First Nation territory.
With the recent signing of an Incremental Treaty Agreement and continued growth across programs, we are reconnecting to traditional practices, asserting our rights and title, and leading transformative work for our people and territories. Join us and be part of this powerful journey forward.
We Offer:
· Wage – Starting rate of $22.00 ($42,900/year) commensurate with experience and qualifications.
· Vacation offerings that generously increase with employment.
· Generous Extended Medical and Dental Plan – premiums 100% paid for by employer.
· Wellness Program – annual funds available for employees to support personal wellness initiatives and activities.
What You’ll Do:
As the Receptionist, you’ll serve as a trusted first point of contact for the organization—helping create a warm, inclusive, and efficient environment that supports the work of the Nation and the well-being of community members. Reporting to the Executive Assistant, you will:
· Welcome and Support Community Members and Guests – Greet all visitors in a respectful, professional, and friendly manner; respond to phone and email inquiries; and ensure people feel seen, heard, and supported.
· Keep the Office Running Smoothly – Oversee reception duties, organize common areas, monitor supplies, and support light janitorial upkeep to keep the workplace clean and functional.
· Support Team Members, Programs and Events – Assist with Team members with meeting logistics, scheduling, room bookings, and preparing refreshments or meals for meetings, programs, and gatherings.
· Provide Administrative Assistance – Help with data entry, filing, records management, cheque deposits, and other office systems that keep the organization organized and responsive.
· Uphold Professional Standards – Maintain confidentiality, follow internal procedures, and model respectful, relationship-centered conduct in all interactions.
· Contribute to a Positive Work Culture – Build strong working relationships with colleagues, support community-driven work, and bring initiative and care to all tasks.
What You Bring:
· Education or certification in office or administrative support (or equivalent experience); experience working with First Nations is a strong asset.
· Detail-oriented, able to juggle tasks, manage time, and keep track of supplies, records, and schedules.
· Clear, respectful, and professional in both verbal and written communication; able to work with a wide range of people.
· Familiar with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and general office equipment; able to learn systems and follow processes.
· Appreciation for Coastal First Nations’ culture and practices, and general understanding of BC First Nations’ history.
· Understands the importance of professional boundaries, privacy, and respectful handling of sensitive information.
· Works well independently and collaboratively, with a willingness to take direction, ask questions, and support colleagues as needed.
