We are looking for Purchasing Assistants to join our Buying team! The Purchasing Assistant (Grocery, Produce or Meat category) will play a key role in supporting the company’s buying and inventory operations. This role involves assisting the Category Buyer in the procurement of products and supporting sales strategy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the accurate updating and maintenance of essential records, including inventory lists, supplier information, product costs, and SKU data. By collaborating with Category Buyers and Marketing teams, the Purchasing Assistant will support promotional strategies and product offerings that align with customer preferences and company goals.
Key Responsibilities
Buying & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate records, including purchasing orders and invoices, price checks, deliveries, and inventory reconciliation.
- Assist in the ordering process by placing purchase orders, tracking shipments, and ensuring the timely delivery of products.
- Support in determining order quantities by analyzing stock requirements, forecasts, and lead times.
- Inspect received products, verifying accuracy and quality before updating inventory records.
- Collaborate in analyzing inventory turnover rates to recommend adjustments that reduce carrying costs and minimize spoilage.
- Update and maintain inventory lists, including supplier details, product costs, and SKU information.
- Help resolve supplier discrepancies or delays to maintain optimal inventory levels and meet customer demand.
Promotional Strategy
- Curate and implement weekly specials based on seasonal trends, popular products, and customer preferences, ensuring sales information is accurate and visually appealing.
- Contribute to weekly team meetings by sharing insights, addressing challenges, and supporting the development of product strategies.
- Collaborate with Category Buyers and Marketing teams to execute promotional strategies and monitor impact on sales.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to provide input into purchasing decisions.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of relevant buying or inventory management experience in a retail or wholesale environment.
- Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is an asset.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel) and Google Workplace; able to quickly learn new systems and tools.
- Excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
- A team player with strong communication skills.
- Possession of a valid B.C. Driver’s License to facilitate travel for on-site visits is an asset.
- Experience with L-BOSS and/or Sage 50 is an asset.
