Position Summary:

The Project Coordinator supports the Natural Resources department projects and initiatives occurring on the Yintah (territory). The Project Coordinator assists the Natural Resources department in achieving success with their projects and initiatives by advocating for culturally sustainable stewardship on the Yintah and helping to facilitate Wet’suwet’en decision-making processes for the Clans and Houses within the Yintah on water and land-based activities. This position requires excellent organizational, facilitation, and communication skills, and an ability to manage contracts, budgets, and complex scopes of work.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Planning
  • Participate in project planning including development of work plans and implementation details.
  • Support technical teams to identify various project needs and the corresponding resources and requirements to meet those needs.

Financial Management

  • Develop project budgets in collaboration with the department manager and project teams.
  • Track project related expenses and budgets to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support reporting of project financial performance.
  • Be aware of and follow finance policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the annual budget process as requested.
  • Support annual audits through sound documentation.
  • Follow the delegated signing authority for purchases per Wet’suwet’en policies.

Operations

  • Review and assess technical information related to forestry, water sustainability, and restoration.
  • Facilitate project implementation per project plans and implementation schedules.
  • Develop communications and where warranted decision support tools (i.e., briefing notes, memos, monthly status reports, discussion papers, etc.) for the Natural Resources Manager, the Executive Director, and/or the Board of Directors (Chief’s Table).
  • Complete accurate record keeping (meeting minutes), file and document management.
  • Work closely with contractors to ensure a shared understanding of deliverables and timelines.
  • Schedule and co-facilitate team meetings with project partners, contractors, and/or proponents as required.

Relationship and People Management

  • Ensure Wet’suwet’en’s vision of the Yintah is respected throughout all activities of the Office and external agencies.
  • Advocate for Wet’suwet’en ecosystem values and governance structures to be at the forefront of project related initiatives.
  • Coach teams to meet project outcomes and fulfill reporting requirements.
  • Conduct membership outreach with support/projects teams, including but not limited to advertising for events, developing communications materials, organizing venues and catering, and tracking event expense(s).
  • Support the collection of input from and communicate with community members on projects.
  • Positively support other project-related activities or tasks necessary for successful project coordination as directed.
  • Understand, follow, and support human resource policies by modeling respectful behaviors.
  • Promote and support a positive working environment aligned with the culture and values of the Wet’suwet’en.

Collectively support Office of the Wet’suwet’en priorities and operations by collaborating and assisting team members with activities including but not limited to sharing knowledge and a helping hand.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education or its equivalent.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field and/or significant relevant experience coordinating complex natural resource management projects and initiatives is preferred.
  • Previous work with Indigenous communities and/or substantial knowledge of Indigenous rights, title, and governance structures.
  • General experience with budgets and bookkeeping is considered an asset.
  • Valid BC Drivers License.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong knowledge, or willingness to learn, of Wet’suwet’en Clan/House Group lineage, governance and House Chief responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in Wet’suwet’en Culture and Traditional functions.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting, preferably coordinating, and overseeing multidisciplinary teams towards a common goal.
  • Experience with contract management, project budgeting, and project scope management.
  • Experience organizing, facilitating, and documenting both virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and schedules can quickly shift including ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, seeking direction when needed.
  • Familiar with the challenges of working to build trust and support within project teams, communities and amongst leadership.
  • Flexible and able to work with community members and, as warranted, leadership outside of regular office hours (i.e., evenings and weekends.
  • Experience working with sensitive or confidential material.
  • Strong understanding of and compliance with confidentiality and a professional code of conduct.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $33.00-$36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
