Full job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mechanical Estimator - Construction to join our team at Airstream Heating & Air Conditioning on a permanent, full-time basis.

Our core competencies lie in our Construction and Service Departments, where we bring projects to life and ensure the maintenance and servicing of our customers' HVAC systems.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare detailed estimates of probable costs of materials, labor, and equipment for mechanical HVAC construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
- Manage and review shop drawings and submittal logs, including the examination of specifications and drawings for compliance with requirements.
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations.
- Coordinate project initiation meetings with operations teams to define project scope, schedule, budget, site conditions, drawings, and specifications.
- Establish and maintain the tendering process, cost monitoring, and reporting systems.
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals throughout the project.
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Liaise and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Assist in the creation, presentation, and negotiation of client agreements to secure contracts and facilitate successful partnerships.
- Manage and coordinate construction projects and prepare progress schedules.
A little about you:
- You have at least four (4) years experience in estimating costs for structural, electrical, or mechanical construction projects, preferably within the HVAC industry.
- You have completed a program in mechanical or construction engineering technology.
- You have at least three (3) years of experience managing construction projects, with a strong emphasis on scheduling, coordinating subcontractors, and overseeing project execution.
- You have prior knowledge of HVAC and sheet metal equipment / material in order to procure alternate products.
- You have prior knowledge of labour allowances for various HVAC construction tasks.
- You have experience working with PDF software to accurately conduct material takeoffs.
- You have experience working with Jonas Construction Software.
- You have prior knowledge of HVAC safety regulations and procedures.
