Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Team Lead for the Mechanical Engineering Team, with a primary focus on designing, testing, and supporting reliable mechanical assemblies for diving products, while also providing guidance and leadership to the team.

Responsibilities and Duties

KRA 1 – Design of Mechanical Parts and Assemblies

· Design and prototyping of custom mechanical components.

· Manage prototype and pilot builds.

· Creation of specifications for custom mechanical parts.

· Define bill of materials for mechanical components.

· Evaluate and facilitate assessments of supplier technical capabilities.

· Complete, review and approve documentation to company standards.

· Continuously improve mechanical reliability through research of best practices and evidence-based investigations into failure modes.

· Engage with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with other system components and to address interdisciplinary challenges.

KRA 2 – Team Leadership of Mechanical Engineering Team

· Lead, mentor and develop the Mechanical Team.

· Ensure all team members plan and achieve their annual professional development goals.

· Administrator for SolidProfessor training for both Mechanical and Sustaining Engineering Teams.

· Provide input into the annual budgeting and goal/rock setting.

· Ensure team has suitable tools to support design and testing and propose options for future improvement.

· Ensure compliance with Permit to Practice / EGBC requirements.

KRA 3– Verification of functionality and performance of mechanical parts and assemblies

· Work with NPI test engineers to develop and execute test plans.

· Support investigations of non-conforming mechanical issues in-field, in-production, and incoming inspection stages.

· Work with electrical engineers to ensure electronics mounting, encapsulation, and protection are designed for optimal reliability.

· Work with Sustaining Team with appropriate/necessary Corrective and Preventative Actions and Engineering Change Orders.

· Support and troubleshoot mechanical problems for customers, service centers, OEMs and production.

· Mentor junior engineers to enhance their technical and problem-solving abilities.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Must Have:

· 5+ years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an R&D environment developing commercial products

  • Progressive experience in mechanical design, specializing in high precision machined and injection molded components
  • Competent with 3D modelling and analysis (Solidworks)

· Proficient with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Important Experience:

  • Experienced with DFMEA and PFMEA techniques

· University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • 3 years in a supervisory/manager role

  • Scuba diver or interest in company sponsored scuba training or you think scuba diving is pretty cool.
  • Proven collaboration skills both in-person and hybrid ways or working.

· Ability to lead and positively influence people in interactions at all levels within an organization.

  • Capacity to work under pressure on multiple concurrent priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to build and facilitate strong cross-functional work teams.
  • Uncompromising dedication to safety and quality
  • Excellent command of the English Language, written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools including Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Salary Range

Career Band 1: $90-$130k
