About the Role

The Janitor at Haven Greens is essential to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment across our greenhouse facility. This role supports daily operations by ensuring office spaces, greenhouse corridors, and shared areas are spotless, promoting a healthy and productive workplace for our team. The Janitor also plays a key role in supporting our staff's safety and compliance needs by managing PPE laundry, maintaining a stock of essential cleaning supplies, and following strict sanitation protocols.

With a focus on consistency, reliability, and attention to detail, the Janitor helps foster a positive work environment that aligns with our commitment to high standards and operational excellence. This position requires a proactive approach to facility upkeep, responding to daily needs and managing cleaning schedules to meet the demands of a high-energy greenhouse environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Facility Cleaning: Perform a comprehensive range of cleaning duties across all designated areas, including office spaces, break rooms, greenhouse corridors, restrooms, and kitchen/cafeteria areas. Tasks include but are not limited to:
  • General Cleaning: Sweep, mop, and dust floors and surfaces to keep high-traffic areas free of dirt, debris, and dust.
  • Restroom Sanitation: Thoroughly clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, to ensure hygiene and meet safety standards. Replenish supplies, such as soap, hand towels, and toilet paper, as needed.
  • Kitchen/Cafeteria Maintenance: Clean and sanitize kitchen and cafeteria surfaces, including counters, tables, and appliances. Ensure cleanliness of food preparation areas, dispose of waste, and maintain a clean, welcoming space for team members.
  • Waste Management: Collect and remove waste and recycling from designated areas, ensuring proper disposal or recycling according to facility guidelines.
  • Touchpoint Disinfection: Regularly disinfect common touchpoints, such as door handles, counters, light switches, and shared equipment, to minimize cross-contamination risks.
  • Routine Checks: Conduct routine checks throughout the day to ensure all areas remain tidy and sanitary, adjusting the cleaning schedule as needed based on foot traffic and operational needs.
  • PPE Laundry Management: Wash and organize PPE on a set schedule to ensure team members have access to clean gear, following all laundering procedures to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Supply Inventory Management: Track and maintain cleaning supply inventory, notify Operations team when reorders are needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow established safety protocols for handling cleaning chemicals and equipment to maintain a safe environment for all staff.
  • Minor Maintenance Assistance: Identify and report any minor maintenance or repair needs within the facility to the relevant team members or management.
  • Collaborative Support: Work with other departments to coordinate cleaning schedules and ensure minimal disruption to greenhouse operations.

Candidate Profile

Must-Have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in custodial or janitorial work.
  • Ability to handle physical demands, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Familiarity with safe handling practices for cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
  • Basic organizational skills for managing supply inventories and laundry schedules.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in a greenhouse or similar controlled environment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards for PPE and basic workplace hygiene protocols.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, move, and walk for prolonged periods (75%+ of the workday).
  • Must be able to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment (approximately 2°C or 35°F).
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-noise environment.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and stoop as necessary.
