Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Human Resources Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of human resources practices and processes. This role requires a strong background in HR management.

The HR Manager is responsible for the overall planning and management of LearnStar staffing and performance to ensure staff have what they need to perform in their roles, so students, parents, and schools receive the service LearnStar commits to providing.

As a key member of the team, you are responsible for the full employee lifecycle of all staff and ensuring LearnStar’s roles are effectively developed and implemented. You balance your time between several different priorities to manage the staff including recruitment, onboarding, managing employee performance and employee relations concerns, ensuring all personnel are up to date in certifications and required training, and offboarding. Additionally, you will support the Acccounting/Operations Manager with payroll reporting and data tracking to ensure no overstaffing or abuse of hours, following up on concerns and managing appropriately.

The right person for this role proactively sets their team up for success, being a reliable and dependable resource, utilizing your relationship building skills to build strong connections and trust with staff. You are a problem-solver who answers staff questions in a timely manner and provides them with accurate and helpful information. You are highly organized and ensure all hires have the proper training and experience needed to achieve their roles and responsibilities, recognizing a job well done and providing effective feedback for improvement where needed. As the go-to for staff, you approach issues calmly and professionally, while ensuring policies and processes are followed.

Responsibilities:

  • Staffing Ratio, Hours, and Payroll Data Management
  • Act as the point of contact for all LearnStar staff regarding sick calls, time off requests, or other reasons for missing shifts – reply in a timely manner and ensuring proper policy was followed.
  • Manage scheduling for all LearnStar staff, ensuring staff ratio is met and adhered to at all locations.
  • Record any under and overstaffing for possible hiring/layoff at any location.
  • Review payroll data to ensure no overstaffing or abuse of hours.
  • Appropriately address and manage any identified abuse or overstaffing with Supervisors.
  • Provide the management team with information on new employees, termination dates and reason for termination for payroll reporting.
  • Ensure new employee forms are created annually
  • Employee Relations and Performance Management
  • Act as the first point of contact for all staff questions, concerns, and issues that may arise – acting on them in a timely manner.
  • Conduct performance conversations and reviews with all LearnStar staff. This will require visits to locations.
  • Manage any employee relations concerns and manage appropriately (i.e., violation of policy, etc.).
  • Assist and support any employee terminations and exits, Recruitment and Onboarding
  • Learn how to understand and apply the Early Childhood Educators Wage Grid and requirements for each ECE position.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary job descriptions and ads.
  • Post job ad to applicable job application sites and boards.
  • Review and screen all resumes in a timely manner – providing updates to leadership on a regular basis.
  • Conduct interviews that assess candidates against knowledge, experience, and suitability for the role, keeping records and interview notes.
  • Complete reference checks for applicable candidate before providing an offer.
  • Provide a letter of offer to the successful candidate and request all required documentation for onboarding.
  • Provide new hire information form to Operations Manager for payroll requirements upon hire (Name, Position, School Location, Rate of Pay, Email address & phone number).
  • Personnel File Management
  • Maintain the personnel files/electronic file of employee documents to ensure all required documents are on file for each employee
  • Track certificate expiry dates and notify staff of required training.
  • Ensure at least one person (representative/delegate/committee) is trained in OHS and is maintaining proper records and meetings at each location, as required by WorkplaceNL.
  • Strong time management and discipline is required, as this is a remote work from home position, with occasional visits to schools for staff performance review.
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience:

- Proven working experience as HR Manager or other HR Executive
- People-oriented and results-driven
- Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics
- Knowledge of HR systems and databases
- Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills

Minimum Education Required:

- Human Resources Management Diploma (min. three year program)

This position offers competitive compensation, $52, 000 - $58,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and education, along with opportunities for professional growth within our organization.
