Position Overview: Human Resource Business Partner
Location: Onsite, CUPS Calgary Office
Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Direct Reports: 0
As a Human Resource Business Partner, you will provide expert HR advice, guidance, and support to CUPS staff and leaders, helping to execute HR initiatives that align with our strategic direction. Your focus will include total compensation, employee relations, policy development, recruitment, and performance management. Working closely with the Director of HR, you will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and strategic HR programs that enhance operational effectiveness and foster a safe, respectful workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Partnership:
- Support leaders with performance management navigation through one-on-one coaching and leading skill development presentations.
- Coach leaders and employees in conflict resolution, performance improvement, and communication strategies, modeling trauma-informed and best practices.
- Promote psychological health and wellness in the workplace, aligning with CUPS’ commitment to worker well-being.
- Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities within HR policies and practices.
Organizational Alignment and Performance:
- Under the guidance of the HR Director to implement strategic HR initiatives and special projects aligned with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with leaders to ensure fair, transparent, and values-aligned performance management processes, including corrective actions and off-boarding discussions.
- Conduct annual salary assessments and provide recommendations for compensation plans based on market data and internal analysis.
- Participate in recruitment efforts, supporting interviews and guiding leaders through hiring processes to ensure positive candidate and manager experiences.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of in-house training, onboarding programs, and health and safety initiatives.
- Support recruitment for hard-to-fill positions, collaborating with leaders and external contacts to identify and secure qualified candidates.
- Update and develop HR policies to ensure relevance, compliance, and alignment with CUPS values and practices.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Build strong partnerships with CUPS operational and business leaders, understanding their needs and delivering tailored HR solutions.
- Foster collaboration and accountability across departments to enhance communication and organizational understanding.
- Partner with leaders to develop and deliver people programs that align with CUPS’ strategic goals.
- Act as a key ambassador of CUPS’ purpose, ambition, and values internally and externally.
What You Bring
- Experience: 6-8 years of relevant HR experience, ideally in the non-profit sector.
- Credentials: CPHR designation required – candidate or full status.
- Education: University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- Passion: Strong connection to CUPS values and purpose; Drive to partner with multi-disciplinary organizational leaders; A person centered and trauma informed HR approach
- Skills & Expertise:
- Strong understanding of HR policy integration and legislative compliance.
- Experience in total compensation, preferably within a non-profit environment.
- Proven skills in leader and employee coaching, conflict management, and mediation.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, database management, and MS Office applications.
- Approach: A supportive and approachable communication style that fosters collaboration and enhances workplace culture.

Work Environment:
- Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm onsite with ability to flex 1 day remote per week as approved
- Periods of stress, high workloads and tight deadlines

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 15 months
Pay: $75,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
