Job Summary:
Maple Lodge Farms, Curtis Chicks Hatchery Division is seeking a Summer Students to join our team for the summer season. As a Summer Student, you will be involved in 2-3 studies which focus primarily on hatcheries and will involve hatching egg performance in order to improve hatchability and chick quality.
This is a great opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience!
Duties:
- Work to determine the effect of egg storage room temperature on the speed of embryonic development
- Measure and record temperatures throughout various rooms as well as temperature of egg shells
- Conducting tests to visualize air flow
- Use of video cameras to monitor hatches
- Travel to other hatchery location(s) as required to compare data
Experience:
- Applicant must be enrolled as a student in a relevant field
- Must have a valid Ontario Driver's license class G2 or G as well as own transportation to travel to our Hatchery location
- Previous experience handling livestock is an asset
- Analytical skills for statistical analysis (will learn how to use Program R)
- Computer proficiency with Excel charts, graphs, as well as PowerPoint
- Desire for continuous improvement
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with early hatch times
This is a temporary position for the summer season, with full-time hours available.
