About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist to support our food safety and quality programs. Reporting to the Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance, this role is critical in ensuring that all products meet regulatory requirements and our high internal standards. The FSQA Technician will be responsible for conducting quality checks, supporting food safety audits, maintaining documentation, and assisting with regulatory compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control Monitoring: Conduct inspections of incoming raw materials, in-process production, and finished products to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Food Safety Compliance: Assist in maintaining and improving food safety programs such as CanadaGAP, HACCP, and PrimusGFS/SQF.
- Auditing & Documentation: Perform internal audits, document findings, and support third-party food safety audits.
- Environmental Monitoring: Execute ATP swabbing, environmental pathogen testing, and other food safety verification activities.
- Process Verification: Monitor sanitation practices, critical control points (CCPs), and operational prerequisite programs (OPRPs) for adherence to food safety protocols.
- Training & Communication: Support training initiatives related to food safety and quality policies, ensuring all employees follow proper procedures.
- Customer Complaint Investigations: Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions for food safety- and quality-related customer complaints.
- Product Holds & Traceability: Implement and oversee the hold and release program, ensuring full traceability and compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with CFIA, FDA, and other relevant food safety regulations, maintaining up-to-date documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality and food safety projects to drive process improvements and strengthen compliance programs.

Candidate Profile
Must-Haves:
- Diploma or degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in a food safety or quality assurance role within the food industry
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and CanadaGAP programs
- Experience working in an agricultural setting
- Has personally led a process improvement initiative
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed records
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to work in a cold production environment (~3°C or 37°F)
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience working in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) or greenhouse operations
- Certification in HACCP, or related GFSI benchmarks
- Experience with environmental monitoring and laboratory analysis
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and quality improvement methodologies
