An integral part of WEOC’s management team, the Finance Manager is a multi-skilled, team-oriented individual who will administer all aspects of WEOC’s finance and accounting requirements from the head office in Winnipeg.

Key Responsibilities

As the financial advisor to senior management, this position oversees all finance and accounting operations with the goal of continuously improving procedures and processes to ensure integrity.

  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepare the annual budget by working closely with the management team.
  • Prepare and present timely and accurate financial statements, reports and analyses for management, board of directors, and funders.
  • Manage cash flow, investments and banking relationships to optimize the organization's financial resources.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger entries.
  • Ensure that financial risks are adequately mitigated within the risk tolerance established by the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax, regulatory and reporting requirements, including annual audits, tax filings and grant reporting.
  • Remain up to date on changes in accounting standards, financial regulations and best practices in the non-profit sector and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Manage relationships with government agencies, funders, partners and other stakeholders related to finances.
  • Manage the finances of WEOC’s National Loan Program, including loan payments, receivables and electronic fund transfers.
  • Act as liaison between WEOC team members and benefit providers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in an accounting and finance role, ideally with a nonprofit organization.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, regulations and best practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and respectful relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize work, deadline responsive and excellent time-management skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs and accounting software (QuickBooks)
  • Bilingual – English and French (preferred).
