Position Profile

The Black Business Initiative (BBI) is the longest serving Black business development initiative in Canada. We work to address the unique needs confronting Black businesses in Atlantic Canada and to build the community capacity of Black communities across Canada. Since its inception, our organization has grown to be a catalyst for job creation, equitable participation, and advancing economic prosperity across Canada. BBI is also one of four intermediaries of the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI), a federally funded initiative aimed at building the capacity of Black-led and Black-serving not-for-profit organizations across Canada. To date, BBI has funded over 900 projects with over $25 million.

Job Summary

The Finance Administrative Assistant will support BBI's SBCCI and Accounting Teams by processing reimbursement requests for conference delegates and ensuring accurate reconciliation of SBCCI project receipts against approved budgets.

This is a term position with an end date of March 31, 2025.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Process reimbursement requests for SBCCI conference delegates.
  • Verify receipts and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Reconcile SBCCI project receipts with approved budgets.
  • Assist with budget tracking and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with the SBCCI and Accounting Teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the Accounting Team with additional financial tasks as needed.

Position Requirements

  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
  • Previous experience in financial administration, bookkeeping, or related roles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong accuracy in data entry and document verification.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and reconcile financial records.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication for coordinating with teams and external parties.
  • Skilled in identifying discrepancies and implementing solutions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to handling sensitive financial information securely
  • Knowledge of, and/or experience working with, Black Canadian communities.
