ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD TECHNICIAN

Niagara Soils Solutions Ltd. is an environmental consulting firm serving private and public sector clients throughout the Hamilton and Niagara Region. We are looking for a hard-working, motivated, and responsible new team member to join our team of highly driven specialized professionals to work on environmental projects with varying complexity. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, self-starter with 3+ years of professional environmental consulting experience.

In addition to field related duties work will include data analysis, and report preparation relating to phase one and two environmental site assessments, soil & groundwater remediation, excess soil management, designated substances & hazardous materials surveys and record of site condition filings. It is expected the candidate will demonstrate strong technical writing and communication skills.

JOB SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Assist with site inspections as part of Phase One Environmental Site Assessment projects.
  • Provide support with respect to a range of activities [technical and non-technical] related to all environmental projects.
  • Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans.
  • Conduct fieldwork including sampling, drilling and contractor oversight.
  • Develop and manage professional relationships with clients and field personnel.
  • Complete field data collection activities and maintain excellent field notes.
  • Assist with interpreting laboratory data.
  • Prepare technical reports and ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures and client expectations.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the environmental / engineering consulting industry.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to ensure field activities comply with workplans and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at once and meet tight timelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word/Office required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and WinLog considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field or Diploma in environmental sciences, or related field.
