Full job description
New Start is hiring a part-time Counsellor for our “Pathways to Healing” project to support individuals healing from intimate partner violence, on a one-year contract.
About New Start:
New Start is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting healthy relationships and addressing intimate partner and family violence. Our services include individual and group counselling for those who have used abuse or violence within their relationships and counselling for partners/former partners of clients. In addition, New Start offers social work services and resource navigation for clients, and programming for fathers and father figures through our Fatherhood Matters team.
About the role:
The Pathways to Healing project is dedicated to supporting individuals recovering from harm or violence in intimate partner relationships. The project provides individual counselling, group counselling, and holistic programming. The project provides opportunities and resources to support healing from trauma in a community environment.
The Pathways to Healing counsellor will be responsible for providing trauma-informed, client-centered therapy to support individuals in their healing process, and leading therapeutic group sessions to create a safe and supportive environment where participants can share experiences and foster mutual support. This role will also participate in a weekly clinical meeting with the counselling team. The ideal candidate will have experience in trauma-informed care, a strong understanding of intimate partner violence, and a commitment to helping individuals heal and move forward in their lives.
Qualifications:
- MSW, M.Ed in Counselling, MACP or equivalent
- Eligibility for registration with a professional college
- Knowledge and experience of Narrative Therapy and trauma-informed practice
- Ability to work collaboratively with professional team
- Ability to effectively manage a client caseload
- Experience working with diverse communities using social determinants of health lens
- Knowledge of community resources
