ABOUT US:
BeConnected Support Services is a multi-service organization offering a full spectrum of residential, community inclusion/school replacement, and contracted support options in Greater Victoria, Salt Spring Island, the Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo, the Comox Valley, and Campbell River. We provide individualized, meaningful choices for the 170+ children, youth, adults and their families we currently serve.
OUR SERVICES AND SUPPORTS ARE:
· Quality: We place a high priority on, and commitment to, the provision of excellent services and supports to the individuals we serve and their families. We are equally committed to providing excellent support and training to staff and contractors working with the individuals we support.
· Individualized: We focus on the gifts and abilities of the individuals we serve and their families. Programs and services are driven by a person-centred planning process, and in assisting individuals to meet their goals and move towards their dreams.
· Community Based: We provide services that individuals want and need, to people with developmental disabilities, in the community where they live, work, and participate in leisure and recreational opportunities.
· Community Inclusion (CI) services are designed to support individuals to have rich lives within community. All CI services are accessed through referral from CLBC. The days and times an individual receives CI services varies and is based on the needs of the individuals and their families.
THE CURRENT POSITION: COMMUNITY INCLUSION CONTRACTOR
- Community Based CI is designed for individuals who require ongoing support to participate in community in a meaningful way. The service operates outside the individual participants’ homes and is usually offered according to an established schedule that allows individuals to participate on a part-time or full-time basis. It may have a vocational focus, social /recreational focus, or some combination of the two.
Contractors support individuals who live with developmental disabilities to lead their chosen lives; and in doing so, get to know an individuals’ family and/or support network in the process. Contractors need to be adaptable, flexible, organized, and accepting. One needs to be a good problem-solver and communicator, who has a sense of humour and likes to learn new things.
The contractors’ role is to provide services and supports to the person(s) supported in an accepting, inclusive, and safe environment. You are responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of the individual while they are in your care, and for making sure that they have opportunities to enhance social and recreational skills. You are also responsible for communicating with the individual and their family, if applicable, as well as BeConnected, on a regular basis.
**When you enter into a contractual relationship with BeConnected, you are considered an independent contractor, not an employee. Independent contractors are self-employed individuals; and the conditions of the relationship are as laid out in your contract.**
Qualification:
- Experience supporting people with developmental disabilities in a range of community activities is an asset
- Experience working in the mental health field is essential
- The successful candidates will have knowledge of community resources and the ability to work independently
Required Documentation:
- Full COVID-19 vaccination status is required
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
- Current First Aid and CPR Level C Certificate
- Acceptable BC Criminal Record Check.
This would be an ideal opportunity for someone in the field to make some additional income as hours are very flexible and set between you and the individual you support.
