UBC Research Forest - Caretaker

The MKRF Caretaker is responsible for security, public relations, and cleaning/maintenance of the forest entrance during non-office hours. Caretaker(s) are not paid a wage, but in exchange are provided the following benefits:

i) Provision of a 3 bedroom/1 bath home including stove, fridge, washer, and dryer.

ii) Provision of all utilities.

iii) Provision of internet service.

iv) Provision of land line and phone number, which is expected to be monitored during duty hours.

v) Provision of any equipment necessary to complete required “caretaker duty” work, to be determined and approved of by Research Forest staff.

Schedule:

• After-hours (4pm-8am weekdays)
• Weekends
• Holidays

Position functions:

1. To provide customer service to guests of the forest.

2. To provide security during non-office hours.

3. To assist with emergency response in getting first responders and infrastructure repair staff to trouble spots in the forest.

4. To provide general site maintenance around the front entrance of the forest.

5. Snow removal, debris removal, light landscaping work.

Position requirements:

1. Ability to pass a background check

2. Authorized to work in Canada

3. Fluent in English (written and spoken)

4. Non-smoker

5. Neat, clean, and organized

6. Excellent customer service and communication/problem solving skills

7. Ability to work with minimal direction

• Please note that pets are not allowed in the caretaker residence and the research forest; smoking is strictly prohibited.

• Caretakers are not employees of the university.
