Breeder Service In Training

Maple Lodge Farms, Canada’s largest and most trusted chicken provider is looking for a Breeder Service In Training!

What you will get to do:

  • Develop basic competencies in the following tasks: spray and water vaccination, bird handling, fleshing, flock placements, blood sampling, and environmental sampling.
  • Develop an understanding of a healthy flock should look, sound, and smell like.
  • Spend time in the hatcheries observing and/or assisting with egg assessment, transfer, takeoff, grading, and breakouts.
  • Understand the relationships between flock management, egg quality, and chick quality.
  • Meet the flock owners and spend time in the barns to learn typical management styles and techniques.
  • It is expected that a person in this position will develop the necessary skills and competencies to advance to the Jr. Breeder Service technician by 6 months.
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures: Adhere/comply with company policies and procedures. Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Your education & experience matters to us:

  • Previous livestock experience an asset
  • Post Secondary Diploma in a related field required. A bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture or animal husbandry.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License class G with clean drivers abstract.
  • Experience in poultry management is an asset, but not required.
  • Ability to walk and navigate in the barn environment.
  • Ability to carry out the physical requirents of the job; including, but not limited to lifting up to 40lb, walking with a full backpack sprayer, climbing stairs with equipment.

Culture & work environment:

Requires daily travel to assigned flocks. Travel or work may be under inclement weather conditions. This will require working with live birds in a barn and laboratory environment. There are risks of physical harm including, but not limited to slips, falls, minor and serious injury, dismemberment, and death associated with the physical labor involved with performing breeder service duties and risks of working in a barn environment. Travel to the office required.
