The Position:
Reporting to the Acres of Fun Summer Camp Coordinator, the Acres of Fun Summer Camp Counsellors will be responsible for promoting the well-being and success of all individuals in our camp program. This position provides essential guidance, care, and support to campers with disabilities, making a lasting and invaluable impact.
What You’ll Do:
- Participant Support. You will provide daily supervision and support to campers. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, development, and achievement of each camper. You will be responsible to be aware of each camper’s dietary and medical needs. You will foster a positive environment for both campers and support staff.
- Program Implementation. In collaboration with the Acres of Fun Summer Camp Coordinator, you will assist in planning and implementing farming-related activities, as well as social-emotional learning and development activities for campers aged 6-13. You will collaborate with other camp staff, farm staff, and parents/guardians to enhance socialization and opportunities for campers with disabilities. You will model and teach campers the importance of safety around animals in a farm setting. You will demonstrate the calming effects of animal therapy, art therapy, horticultural therapy and their positive impact on campers.
What You’ll Bring:
· Education and Experience. You are pursuing (or have completed) your secondary school diploma. You have previous experience working in day camp or childcare settings and/or experience working with individuals with disabilities.
· Empathy and Compassion. You exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and an awareness of barriers to success, including learning limitations. You inspire confidence, resilience, and self-esteem in others through respect, acceptance, and focus on strengths and achievements. You have exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to establish rapport with people of diverse backgrounds.
· Communication and Collaboration. You have outstanding communication skills and are comfortable in group settings. You can easily make connections with peers and participants. You are an effective team player with a positive attitude whose interactions demonstrate accountability, authenticity, and collaboration.
· Organization. You can manage multiple demands and can work independently without close supervision. You are self-motivated, and results-oriented; you demonstrate initiative and contribute to a work environment that values and encourages innovation.
· Administrative Requirements. A current, clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector from the last 6 months is an asset. Up to date First Aid and CPR C/AED certification is an asset.
