What does a Case Manager do?
The work of Case Managers cannot be under-emphasized in our society. They are usually deeply involved in dealing with their clients of all ages and interact with children, the elderly, those with disabilities, and their clients’ families. Their duties also include developing care plans, ensuring the care plans are implemented, and working with other health workers to provide appropriate care for the needs of each individual. They usually work in hospitals, schools, correctional facilities, child welfare organizations, community agencies, and social services agencies.
Case Manager skills and qualifications
Empathy, efficient communication, and the ability to listen attentively are some of the skills required of Case Managers. Because they work with emotionally delicate individuals, Case Managers need to have empathy and problem solving skills. Case Manager experience requirements
Case management is a delicate task, so Case Managers are expected to have proven working experience in client management as a Nurse, Mental Health Care Worker, or another related profession. They are also generally expected to have a minimum of three years of supervised experience as a Social Worker. A Case Manager should have previous experience working in a management role, either as an intern or paid worker. Successful Case Managers generally have experience in counselling, and psychotherapy.
Case Manager education and training requirements
A Case Manager typically has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, human services, healthcare, social work or another related field. For a more senior or supervisory position, it may be preferable for candidates to have a relevant master’s or doctorate degree. All candidates should have a background with a reputable organization and be accredited in a field such as social work, healthcare, or criminal justice.
