Background

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is the force behind 4,400 hotels and resorts across seven brands, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn. In order to maintain and grow its brands, IHG must continuously bring in a variety of talented professionals in locations throughout the country. “Our recruitment advertising budget is important, so we need to make sure we’re using sources that deliver the best possible ROI while meeting our quality and volume needs,” said Francene Taylor, Director, Resourcing-Americas at IHG.

IHG needs cost-effective recruitment sources that deliver consistent candidate volume and hires for a broad range of positions nationwide. “Many online recruitment sources can’t deliver candidates and hires in large volumes across different skillsets at a national level,” Taylor said. “Sources that can provide this are very important to us.”

Approach

After receiving strong results from having its jobs included in Indeed’s organic results, IHG sponsored its jobs to increase the number of qualified candidates to its wide variety of jobs and locations.

“Sponsoring our jobs on Indeed resulted in an increase in the number of hires we received across multiple job functions; everything from a Sous Chef to a Web Merchandising Manager,” Taylor said.

“Job boards may drive multiple types of hires, but they don’t deliver the same volume or ROI that we get from Indeed.”

In addition to an increase in hires for its multiple job types, IHG saw an immediate increase in the number of hires for jobs in all of its U.S. locations. “Indeed works well uniformly across the country, even in our remote locations,” Taylor said. “Indeed provides more hires in our remote U.S. based locations than any other online source.”

Results

“In terms of traffic that converts to hires, Indeed wins,” Taylor said. IHG was able to easily measure and compare Indeed to its other recruitment advertising sources within its applicant tracking system (ATS), Taleo Enterprise Edition. Indeed was IHG’s lowest cost per hire online source, and was 54 percent lower than its cost per hire from job boards.

Over a five-month period of advertising, Indeed provided:

  • 113 hires
  • $358 cost per hire (lowest online recruitment source)
  • Variety of hires including: Sous Chef, Operations Manager, Director – Food & Beverage, and Web Merchandising Manager
