Unavailable Jobs on Indeed

Indeed connects people with jobs that are open, accessible, and ready for applying. We may remove, hide, or suspend job posts that are out of date, missing key details, or lead to poor application experiences.

Below are the main types of unavailable jobs and the rules for each one.

Policy requirements

URLs

  • Links directing job seekers to a third-party site must work.
  • We may remove jobs with broken URLs from search results until the link is fixed.

Examples of broken URLs:

  • Connection errors or blank pages
  • Security or access issues
  • Site maintenance or service unavailable
    • “This page isn't working,” “503 Service Unavailable,” or “The site is undergoing maintenance.”

Job availability

  • Jobs linked to businesses or locations that are not yet open (“coming soon”) must show a clear start or hiring date.
  • Jobs submitted more than 60 days before the start date may have reduced visibility.

Examples:

  • Jobs posted more than 60 days before a business opens
  • Jobs posted more than 60 days before the role is available
  • Jobs advertised as “opening soon” without a clear start date

Expired jobs

  • Jobs that are no longer open must be removed or shown with reduced visibility.

Examples:

  • The application or start date has passed
  • The employer has shared that they are no longer hiring
  • The role is generally no longer available

Internal-only roles

  • Jobs open only to current employees or members of a specific program may not appear on Indeed.

Examples:

  • Work-study programs
  • University research positions for enrolled students only. Examples include:
    • Graduate assistantships
    • Research positions
    • Work-study jobs that require the applicant to be currently enrolled at the institution
  • Roles posted as part of an internal mobility program
  • Jobs stating, “This position is only open to current employees”
  • Jobs requiring a referral from a current employee
  • Department- or program-specific restrictions
    • For example, “Only members of the XYZ Leadership Program may apply”

Application methods

  • Jobs must use approved application methods.
    • For example, vetted ATS or other integrated apply tools
  • Posts asking job seekers to apply in other ways may have reduced visibility.
  • Including an email or phone number in the description is allowed.

Next steps

If we removed or hid your job post:

  • Compare your post against the guidelines above.
  • Test and repair broken links before posting.
  • Check for expired dates and start dates.
  • Make sure the role is open to all qualified candidates.

Contact Indeed Support if you believe we removed your post by mistake.
