Working at Zara was an eye opener to a working in a high pace high volume environment in the customer service industry. Zara has taught me how to work under pressure in difficult situations while maintaining a professional work environment.

poor management right up to Director

Decent job for a student, be prepared for inconsistent hours and an often incorrect paycheck. Even if you are hired full-time you cannot count on 40hrs a week, part-time may only get 1 shift a week. Training: for new hires is limited which results in a lot of mistakes, requiring extra time to go back and fix everything. This is not motivating and a lot of people shut down from the expectations which results in a store full of employees doing their best to look busy while not doing their work. Shifts: If you are scheduled for closing you may be asked or lead to believe you have to stay later to finish cleaning the store - even after 11PM! Management will treat you negatively if you refuse. HR had to send out an email reminding all GMs to follow provincial laws regarding the number of days in a row someone can work and the minimum time they must be allowed between shifts. Promotion: Wanting to move up in this company you need to copy the personality of the upper management and develop a personal relationship with them. Actually being good at your job will not get you a raise or promotion, you need to fight your case for everything if you do not have these close personal connections. There are quite a few staff with 3+ years experience in their position who just never get that chance.

Pros

Spanish speaking

hours on your paycheck are often wrong

Cashier/Sales Associate

Only resigned because I was travelling for over a month. Loved my co-workers, my managers were easy to talk to, the overall atmosphere was great, and the hours weren't so bad. I usually opened. Usually with full-timers. Clean up, organize the cash desk, open cash, make sure the floor is clean, then have morning meeting with the team that morning. Theyd discuss how the store has been doing, managers communicate to the staff about what needs to be done that day. Morning meetings are great because they prepare the staff for the day. Closing was a lot more fun than opening because I'm working with part-timers/students my age. Closing cash and making sure the floor is clean. During the day, the most stressful part is making sure the floor is clean (running fits) while helping out customers especially during Sale. As a cashier, you'd have to deal with a lot of customer complaints. Great training ground. Great first job.

Pros

co-workers, great atmosphere, ok discount

Cons

Long hours during sale, short hours during the slow months, head office is intimidating, they should change the music, the two-week vacation rule

Pretty Decent Store

It's not too bad to work, but retail is hectic on its own. So if you don't mind fast pace and hectic work environments, this place isn't too bad at all.

A perfect and stable part-time job for students

Zara provided employees with great accommodations and hours to fit their lifestyle, and had tasks that brought retail to a new level, keeping the job fresh and interesting every day.

Sales Associate/Cashier

Typical day at work would be assisting customers with any items, whether it be for a, friend ,loved one, child ,or even them with merchandise. I learned that working in retail requires patience and time making sure customers are happy. The hardest part of my job would be customers that are not happy with promotions or prices why not being able to buy the company's product. Most enjoyable part would be putting together a outfit that the customer really liked and purchased.
