Work was both challenging and rewarding as you could see the positive impact you were having on youth and their families. What made the work most challenging was the unhealthy work environment (gossip, bullying, complaining) that was quite pervasive.
Negative work environment
Staff were great to work with. They made a stressful job enjoyable. Management was and continues to be terrible. Management makes changes without consulting front line staff or at least getting their opinions. Management is completely out of tune with what actually happens in the facility.
Good pay, good coworkers.
Poor, inexperienced management.
- Worked with fellow students designing low threshold activities for youth and working with Ottawa Public Health nurses encouraging questions and testing amongst youth - Staying in contact with partner agencies maintaining awareness of current city programs; and participate in select community events
The William E. Hay Centre is a tremendously good place to find meaningful employment in correctional services. Working with youth involving in the justice system to help them develop new life skills and goals to assist them in transitioning back into mainstream society.
