A major career let down
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 12 October 2019
Where do i begin? Very very poor management who only care about what they can get out of their poor employees who put their heart and souls into the business and get nothing in return.
All about favoritism, unless you wanna move up, you'll need to know the right person. Managers will use and abuse you to get what they want so they'll look good instead of the poor associates under them.

Great ground-floor people, big disconnect between admin/management and ground-floor workers
Inventory Control Worker (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 17 September 2019
There's a lot of talk about people moving on to other departments, but if you're the best at what you're doing and nobody else can stay employed in your department long enough to replace you: you're not going anywhere.
Management tries to find potential in ground-floor workers, and is always pushing for people to try their best by promising advancements -- but there are only so many "better" positions within the company. Sales seems to be where most people in ground-floor positions want to end up, but once again: only so many positions need to be filled and competition to move up (or even between departments) is fierce.
More than a few people have told Upper Management (to their face) that they don't view their jobs as their long-term goals and that they see no room for advancement, and Upper Management would just sigh, shrug and nod (as if to say "Yeah, it is what it is").
The hardest part of Inventory Control is getting used to what seems to be a lack of common sense from other departments. But then again: if people did their job properly, there wouldn't be a need for so many Inventory Control Clerks in the first place.
If you speak up against a Manager: expect to be put under a microscope and have yourself fired inside of 6 months -- and they will use *anything* against you. This one person had a child and (even though it was illegal to punish someone for taking time off of work when it was to look after a child) they started writing this person up for missing work due to medical appointments this person's child had to attend. They said this person had used -
Pros
Great Co-Workers, a lot of knowledge being shared by the department leaders. Always something new to do or learn.
Cons
No pay raises, not a lot of room for advancement in most cases, HR seems to favor upper management over front-line workers.

Decisions made at corporate level
Administrator / Office Manager Southern Alberta (Former Employee) - Lethbridge, AB - 4 September 2019
Wolseley has become all about corporate. They make all branch decisions, leaving the manager to be their puppet. You are just a number. It doesn’t matter how hard you work or how long you have been with the company. You can be fired ( by someone from corporate office at a moments notice). I’ve seen several employees be (let go with no reason).

Relaxed work environment

Order picking gets repetitive and tedious.
Order Picker (Former Employee) - Halton Hills, ON - 27 July 2019
This is a good place to work if you have the patience and attention span to drive a Crown order picker up and down a warren of aisles stopping every few feet to rise up to a cell (location on the racks) and count and pick product and build skids. Some of the product you will have to shuffle onto your skid include 75-pound full toilets, and 20-30-lb. blind flanges made of solid steel.
The management is decent, willing to accommodate, and easy to get along with so long as you're not lazy or insolent. The crew is very nice, and I miss working with them. They're a good bunch.
Because the ratio of pickers to lead hands is approximately 40:1 on any given shift, chances for advancement are very rare. They only happen when a lead hand quits or goes on leave. The management never turns over, which is a good thing in a way, but you can forget about moving up for the most part. This is more a job for people who want to make a straight wage. There are generally occasional opportunities to make a lateral move, a.k.a. moving from one shift to another, but with no aggregate increase in wage.
The wage, I believe, is decent for the work you are required to do. You must not be afraid of heights. You must be willing to wear a fall-arrest harness and be linked to a lanyard for your whole shift (save one of your two twenty-minute breaks in an 8-hour period).
In sum, this is another job that not everyone can fit into, but it is relatively simple, requires little skill, and work is abundant, often with options of up to four hours daily overtime.
Pros
Barbecue once a month, generously supplied by management. Unionized environment, if you're into that sort of thing. Managers are good listeners to your concerns, and generally stay on top of the job quite well. Professional HR department.
Cons
Can get tedious due to lack of skill needed, Very repetitive, Counting all day can get on your nerves, Must start on nights or afternoons until a vacancy opens in the day.

Stay away.
Manager (Current Employee) - Finance - 8 July 2019
Poor senior leadership from the top down. High turnover for a reason. This place is just falling apart- quickly. Not doing well and very unpleasant- not doing well? Cut more jobs. Don't like what somebody is saying? Cut their job or close their location. Nothing good to say about this place except location may work for you or you may enjoy the location you are at if it is far from corporate office.
Pros
Location
Cons
Poor senior leadership

A career disappointment....
Inventory Planner (Former Employee) - Burlington, ON - 1 April 2019
Was hired as an inventory planner at this company. Most of the people there were very nice, but they had a mass exodus of people in a short period of time and that told me a lot about the company! Training there is fend-for-yourself, with no plan, no job aids and no direction from the team manager. Once onboard, the hours can be very long. From a technology standpoint, they have been taking about upgrading their ERP system for years and have yet to do it. Imagine using technology from the late 80's!
I would urge anyone considering a role here to keep moving and look at better companies.
Pros
Nice people and helpful
Cons
Long hours, ancient technology

Good Monday to Friday Job
Shipper/Receiver and Delivery Driver (Former Employee) - Hamilto - 14 March 2019
Nice for a balanced schedule.
But room to move up is slim and you have to not be good be too valuable at your current position to have a shot to move up or around otherwise they want you to stay where you are
Pros
Stable, easy to predict hours
Cons
Not all Managers are created equally. Room to move up is good if your not great at your job

Poor management
Return Clerk (Current Employee) - Laval, QC - 24 February 2019
Unfortunately all the extra that you do is not noticed. Way too much work for the amount of people there and many people have gone on burnout because of it. With better management, the company could flourish.
Pros
Pension plan
Cons
Poor management

Productive and fun company to work for.
Shipper/Reciever (Former Employee) - West Edmonton Mall, AB - 14 January 2019
It was pretty straight forward. I was either unloading or loading skids, or trailers. Lifting 50lbs a day. Co-workers were nice. And overall a good compyan to work for. The hardest part of the job was when a forklifter did not put his item in the right location, and everyones caught up in there own duties its sometimes hard to get help but once u memorize the items its easy.
Pros
Kitchen in the staff room.
Cons
long hours.

Worst management. Good company
Supply Chain (Former Employee) - Burlington, ON - 11 December 2018
terrible management. No room to grow. Manager only by title they have no idea how to deal with team. Favoritism is the key to be taking in consideration.
Great company with good benefits. Dont work in Supply Chain. Good place to learn how not to manage people.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Purchasing managers
