Never a dull moment
Police Constable (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 1 April 2020
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedYou can take your career in many directions. Start out on patrol and then move to investigations, or public relations or working with children. But don't let the police role absorb your life maintain interests outside of policing

Repetitive Frustrations that fall on deaf ears
CPIC Operator (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 26 November 2022
Nothing ever changes, yet complaints are raised all the time. You have a managerial staff who couldn't care less about their people. Their too scared to make mistakes which often leaves the workers in the lurch.

A career like no other.
Too many to list (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 26 March 2020
Was a Police officer for the Winnipeg Police Service for 30 years and enjoyed pretty much every minute of it. Was an amazing career and was lucky enough to work in many different areas of the service.
Pros
Rewarding career helping people
Cons
Stressful, long hours and lots of shift work

Many good officers
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 20 January 2019
Good people in the rank and file, not so much in management.
The rank and file are some of the best people that I have worked with, but police work in a swamp. In a swamp, cream doesn't rise to the top, scum rises to the top.
Pros
Important work
Cons
Night shift

Hard working environment
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 11 December 2018
This is a busy organization to work. For the most part there is a strong brothership/sistership attitude amongst members who have each others back. There are opportunities to truly help people but unfortunately its more of a matter of cleaning up people's life style choices.
Pros
Very Good salary
Cons
Shift work

Great career opportunities
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 3 April 2018
Winnipeg Police Service is an excellent Police Service. Having worked on secondment for another justice agency(Corrections) away from Winnipeg Police, I had opportunity to travel and teach across Canada. Having dealt with and worked with other Police services and agencies in Canada and the USA, I came to appreciated Winnipeg Police Service much more and realized how good our Service is compared to most large cities. The training is excellent and carried out efficiently. If I would identify a need I would say Winnipeg Police Service needs more leaders and less managers. Being a Police officer is challenging and there is little available to prepare officers for what they will see, experience and have to deal with on a daily basis.
We see people at their worst and that wears on each and every officer. Because officers are subjected to this day after day it changes your view of people and changes who you are. This is noticed more by the people in your life away from work. The hardest part of the job for me was when children were involved or hurt. Best parts of the job were the amazing people you work with and the successes in helping people, and of course getting bad guys off the street. I am very proud to have been a Winnipeg Police Officer.
Pros
Great people, good equipment
Cons
seeing the disgusting side of humanity

Pro-active and fun
West District - Community Support Unit (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 8 February 2018
As a supervisor, I would prepare the roster for the day in preparing for the daily briefing. I would collect the relevant incidents City wide and provide that information to the shift. Sign out equipment to the members and a host of administrative functions prior to hitting the street.
