Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat place to work, when I worked there 2005-2020.The people were great, good benefits medical as well as flights. They hire for personality and train for skills. Overall pay not great but if you are young and want to travel this could be the job for you.

Insights into WestJet Airlines
What people like
- Supportive environment
- Ability to learn new things
- Feeling of personal appreciation
Areas for improvement
- Fair pay for job
Take, take take by management but no give back
SSC (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 13 September 2023
Low paying job, where they state a part of the reason it’s low paying is because of travel benefits but then they go ahead and remove days off from your schedule (ie. 3 day weekends) so there’s very little chance if ever to be able to utilize your travel benefits. Super stressful, communication is lacking and last minute from management and the reliability of their IT to do your job correctly is constantly an issue. Forget about advancement here regardless of your stats that are tracked 24/7 as well. Until the overall morale, the pay and the scope of work improves, I’d choose elsewhere.
Pros
Travel benefits you can barely use
Cons
Stressful, lack of support and direction, changing policies, constant IT issues, low company morale

Not great
Flight Attendant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 2 September 2023
Used to be a great place to work. Not supported anymore and all you do is take abuse from the public. Managers change all the time. Too much unpaid work.
Pros
Travel
Cons
Get disrespected all day by the travelling public.

Okay
Flight Attendant (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 1 September 2023
while I enjoyed the opportunity to travel and interact with passengers, the poor scheduling and low pay were significant drawbacks to this career. I believe that better compensation and improved scheduling practices would greatly enhance the experience for flight attendants in this industry

Not a good airline to work for . Do not recommend
Flight Attendant (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 31 August 2023
Overall , I had a very negative experience at this company . They state that safety is their number one corporate mission , however they do very little to protect their staff against most on-duty safety concerns. This ranges anywhere from working extremely long days with little to no sleep, to protecting unruly/abusive passengers instead of their employees . Approximately 30 % of a workday is preformed with absolutely no compensation eg : you are required to arrive one hour before boarding , but you are not paid for that time ( boarding included) . It adds up at at least 20 “volunteer” hours a week . Delays can be hours and again WestJet requires you to be there but you’re not compensated for any of that time . The pay rate is very low as well .. There are much better airlines than WestJet .
Pros
Travel
Cons
All listed above, overall very poorly run

Nice to work from home
Sales and Service (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 29 August 2023
Work from home which is nice. Great perks for flights for yourself and spouse/companion, but pay is low. management is ok, schedule is not very flexible. Vacation time will have to be booked all at once in the beginning of the year.

Used to be good, but now should be avoided.
Business Analyst (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 28 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Most people are good to work with. Employee purchase program.Flight benefits (if you use them and flight loads aren’t crazy). Campus building is nice. Hybrid work model for most office workers. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? It’s an incredibly reactive environment. You always have planned work, but in most areas you are reacting and putting out fires. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Culture has been degrading since purchased by Onex. They have gotten rid of SO many good people, and it was done in a very poor way. People are now too afraid to speak up about anything.

Great place to work
Front Line Support Worker (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 25 August 2023
Benefits are great! Culture is amazing! Lots of room for growth. They are are good company and they seem to try hard to treat employees fairly. They are open communicators and give employees clear guidelines.

Fast Paced+Organized+Team player+Computer Savvy
Guest Service Lead (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 19 August 2023
Those are some skills you must possess in order to last long. As CSA/BSO/ anyone above the wing, Should have Lots of Patience, and able to stay calm and professional when handling difficult situation. •You should always be mentally prepared and focused. Being computer savvy is helpful- especially a lot of troubleshooting computers•- This is a very time sensitive and a fast paced environment too; always on the go. Great communication and team player is a must. •You learn different things everyday so no matter how long or short youve been working with WJ, it doesnt matter: You should always make some room for improvements & adjustments. • You have to be prepared to work independently too and also you must have a great teamplayer skills. • Overall= its a job that’s worth keeping. Nothing is perfect. It is hard on the first months but as you keep going and learning, you will get use to it and it feels like not a job anymore. Same as scheduling, once your seniority goes up, the more chance you can get what shift you prefer; its hard at first years but we all been there. Swapping/Trading shifts might be challenging, but at the end of the day, everything will work out just fine.
Pros
Uniform Allowances, Teamwork: Fly Benefits:
Cons
Shifts, Hours, bidding system for vacation, Uniform Fabric: No Shoe allowance

For people who want to feel bad all the time
CSA (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 15 August 2023
Consistent abuse from both guests and management. Scheduling is terrible. They make zero allowances or accomodatoins for staff with disabilities and you can not have a second job or a family and expect to last here

Stressful
AP Coordinator (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 9 August 2023
Management is good at pretending to care about the employees but will blind side you by letting employees go if you do not go above and beyond your work hours.
Pros
Discounted flights, hybrid
Cons
Low wage, Long hours, stressful

Really think
Don’t work there thankfully (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 20 July 2023
All I’m saying is, they get you with the flight benefits but you have no time to go anywhere with them. Before you apply really think if you want a job that takes up your entire life. In 7 years I got 4 PTO’s approved. The only thing you’ll gain from working here is a mental health disorder from the passengers screaming at you and a reason why you want to jump off a bridge. But definitely apply if you think you can handle extreme stress daily, 365 days a year. Good luck :)
Pros
Flight benefits
Cons
Everything else

Unrealistic Expectations
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 14 July 2023
As a part-time employee, you are supposed to have open availability and cannot hold a second job in this position. You cannot choose your schedule so for students or anyone else with a life, good luck navigating around that. You need to do a lot of training for the job before you are even paid, so it's about 3+ hours of unpaid work. If you are looking to not get paid very much and benefit from other benefits like standby for flights then this is the job for you. With the economy right now, 20 hours at less than $17.00 an hour is crazy.

Employees are micromanaged, but benefits are great.
Call Centre Agent (Current Employee) - Remote - 11 July 2023
Training is severely rushed and extremely focused on company values which results to employees not actually knowing the scope of their role. The pay isn't worth all the hard work and stress you face daily, not to mention the fact that the management is constantly breathing down your neck leaving no space for mistakes. Benefits are great at least

flight benefit
Customer Service Passenger Service Agent (Current Employee) - Orange County, FL - 29 June 2023
when they are hired me, they tell us for the awesome flight benefit after 3 month. But when I ask for the flight benefit Supervisor is straight said to me no you are not eligible for flight benefits, but I already work six month. ( They're Big layer )

Experience of a lifetime
Flight Attendant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 16 June 2023
Great colleagues, good schedules. Pay for the first 3-4 years is quite low. Juniors now hold up to 12 days of reserve per month instead of the 4 days originally told upon hiring.

Good job if you’re senior enough
Cabin Crew Member (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 13 June 2023
Westjet has gone through many phases - overall it’s a good job with decent work/life balance if you’re senior enough to get a good schedule. Pay isn’t enough for the hours you actually work. People often feel under appreciated.
Pros
Good coworkers, flexible schedule
Cons
Low pay for the hours you’re actually on shift
