No regrets. Walmart provided me the best exposure to so many elements of retail, marketing, operations and merchandising in the Cdn marketplace. I learned so much. Overall a good place to work with some big downsides. Leans teams are one of them, so expect to do lots of heavy lifting yourself. There is limited room for advancement for the same reasons. Merchandising and Operators run the show so if youre a support team, expect to work extra hard to be heard. Its the pay that will help keep you there in tough times.

No room for advancement, lean teams
There are good opportunities for rapid career progression at Walmart Canada, but it comes at a cost. If you choose to work here, be prepared to work overtime. Compensation matches the level of effort, there is a good bonus structure and share option plan. However, the business has grown rapidly and there are overlapping areas of responsibility - your role will not be clearly defined and there are a lot of "We have always done it that way" type of people who work there.
Work days tended to be very long. The culture in the business changed over a period of years as the Canadian market became more competitive. The company became very bogged down with processes and lost some of the identity of who they were. It was satisfying working in an area like food where Walmart was growing and stealing market share. Walmart gave back to the communities in charitable ways. At one point the company was top heavy with management.
