HR is meddlesome and does not really go the distance. Store managers often are to preoccupied by store performance to be bothered with staff. Management is paid well and benefits are good but hours are long and no respect given. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, you will not get ahead
Management pays well
No work life balance
if you only have a high school education and want to work harder than you are paid for with borderline abusive management styles, this is the place for you. If you think you can build a career, they will promise advancements until you realize you're dead ended deliberately with many excuses to wait a little longer for that never appearing raise, or promotion that is just around the corner. In reality your manager will be telling everyone this, and no promises will ever be fulfilled. You will be stressed, burnt out and kept where you are by your manager, since finding they next sucker might be hard. This is why they are turning to overseas recruitment under thinly veiled student visas - no joke - look into the truth - they killed jobs here under the pretense of providing others, now there is no job for anyone who needs a living wage. Everyone in country is already figuring out they are a poor employer. All the bad stories you hear, aren't even close to as bad as it really is. Save yourself!
no respect, low pay
I found the biggest problem in the entire facility to be the unstable little bully working in HR. "Sue" single handedly ruined the entire experience for me, totally incompetent in her own position, she seems to delight in petty and insignificant opportunities to demonstrate her authority. Sad really, because I enjoyed most of the Management Team in Ancaster. They'd be doing themselves a favor if they jettisoned this liability.
I love working for Walmart. My store is like my family they have taken care of me and have given me all the tools to advance in my career. The upper management is always trying to improve and build up the associates. There is a yearly survey to get associates opinions of the store they work in and there is a big culture of associates
Walmart is a family oriented company. Very fast paced and always changing. If you do not like changes, then it is not a place for you. The sky is the limit with Walmart!!

Basic every day retail outlet workplace. Changing from the way they started out from. Not enough employees to keep the store at the level they should be. I would recommend people to work there but not to depend on the company to stay as a reliable income source. They give associates anywhere from 0 to 28 hours for part time and up to 37 for full time. Managers work 40 plus hours per week. Schedules are available on the computer and staff ensure their hours are correct. Store is open every day except Christmas. Self check outs are available as well as cashier run registers. Store opens at 7 am and closes at 11 pm. There are associates that work overnight stocking shelves and doing cleaning.
The hours are endless as assistant manager at Walmart. The salary is good however there is no overtime and the additional hours you have to work his ridiculous and never get those hours back either in time or in pay. Most managers treat the associates terribly because they are under so much stress. Store managers are way too dispensable at Walmart. Our store went through four different store managers in the first year I worked as assistant manager. Two of them were fired the other two are simply moved to other stores or demoted. I think the worst thing though is that managers are intimidated and even afraid of their area director. It's a terrible chain reaction that trickles right from the top. The hours are not only long but terrible, working many weekends and always short-staffed. I thought I could make a difference but I was just one small fish in a very large ocean.
Walmart discount card
Long unpaid hours as a manager, no feeling of real job security as all assistant managers, co-managers, and store managers are fearful of losing their job.
I was part of management working as assistant manager in stocking on night shift, the course given to us pre working full time was very instructive and professional and was greatly appreciated, the hardest part of this job was to satisfy all departments with an under staffed personnel ! I did not appreciate other managers working harder than the employees! ( in order to fill in the understaffed employees as we had other work activities that had to be finished after working hours, I understand that not all Walmart operate the same way but in this store that's what we had to live with , unfortunately! Other then that the working conditions were terrific. A very good company to work for.
Walmart can be a very stressful environment during peak seasons but with proper management of time and good training, you'll love your job. If you don't look for ways to learn and improve your daily life you may struggle
