I worked here for one month in 2011, and it was one month too long! Based on their interview process and what I discovered I should have ran, but I NEEDED a full-time job, and it was in a department which aligned with my future goals to go to school and become a patisserie. Management was extremely unprofessional. The interview process was very weird, I had to interview with managers of multiple departments despite having applied for one job in one department. During my interviews some managers were condescending and rude; some told me they felt I wasn’t a fit for the job in my department, or a fit for Wal-Mart. Some suggested I find a job elsewhere, and admitted they did not want me working there because they worried I’d be fast tracked to management and would take their job (unfortunately they were not joking and their tone was very harsh). Upon receiving notice of my employment my department manager gave me a very rude lecture on how I had better work out as an employee in her department because none of the other managers wanted to hire me and she had to fight for me. How they based their pay was also an issue which I am not at liberty to discuss in this review. Having to gather before a shift to sing and chant was extremely childish, forced, and awkward, not to mention the requirement of having to be there early to spend 10minutes unpaid before your shift for this, and being penalized if you were not there for it. As for the job itself, Bakery Night Shift/Grave Shift. The training itself was sufficient at two nights of training, however the job was - more...
Unprofessional staff, health and safety issues, discrimination, poor salary
The employees were amazing but the over all job was not at all great. They we high demand and expected unrealistic results. I would never ask my worst enemy to here. It is good for students but not for long time work. They are draining and stressful. Not good for mental health
Walmart was a fun workplace that i met a lot of new caring people. everyone gets to works at different departments and learn new things. you learn thing like time management and how to handle multiple situations at once. it was a overall good experience for me
When I was first hired the only training I received was how to operate a cash register. Only I was hired as a floor associate. I was expected to just guess at what questions I should ask so that I would have things explained to me. The first 2 years I had decent hours. But as soon as minimum wage was increased my hours were cut back to only 12 hours a week from 28.
very fast paced work envirmonment but everyone was willing to help everyone, a typical day was handling cash and talking to different people and hearing different stories about their lives and making new and fun relationships with people you wouldnt normally talk to
Extreamly Unrealistic expectations of work in the small time frame they give you.... extreamly unreliable hours... you find the odd good manager but most are on powertrips .... every manager has a different way they want the job done and they all exspect it to be done there way ...they play favorites and only promote the favorites ....full time positions basically do not exist...
Good Benefits, started at above minimum while being a student Rarely are people fired Very unlikely to be promoted from a menial job to management Scheduling was terrible, was on times I was unavailable from the beginning. If a co-worker calls in last minute you'll prob be alone. Longer shifts were common, 6-8 hrs Customers are trash mostly, not nice or happy Co-workers were great, mostly friendly and had good times Management expected unrealistic things because head said so without consulting the people that actually work that department (i.e We need 60% carts inside the garage always! Saturdays are busy, so all carts are inside with customers. But they didn't understand that so they just push us outside to get more. This was after we just did all of it and the carrels were empty)
Some random food/snacks in breakroom
If you wanna screwup your sleep schedule, have your hours taken by people working on visa’s, have management disrespect your identity, diminish any sense of routine in your life, then Walmart is a great option.
Management doesn’t care
Management doesn’t care.
It is your average part time job, fast work environment means day goes by fast. Cashier manager awful, lost my advancement applications, transphobic (refused to call me by my correct name/gender for over a year, all other employees were able to). Not allowed to transfer departments Rude customers, try to tell you how to do your job even though they lie/ bash you for no apparent reason.
Fast Paced/Short Days, Easy, Nice employees
Awful Manager, Rude customers
