Management is out of touch
Dietary (Former Employee) - Surrey, BC - 19 November 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedManagement is very out of touch with employees and job site operations, yet place high demands on employees who are not paid adequately for the high levels of stress that comes with the job.

Productive and fun.
Health Care Aide (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 24 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The best part was that it was a nice setting and had only five male residents. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? My coworker who is a bully. Picks on the new casuals. The bullying affected my health so much, I left. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Work environment is good. One level house as they all use wheelchair. Culture is good too. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Wake up two residents and the other one wakes up the other two. One of the resident is already woken up by the night staff. It's a busy morning but I enjoy working with the residents.

Horrible management
Cook (Former Employee) - Nanaimo, BC - 6 March 2023
This is a Really sad place to work. It was a very Good company that got taken over by a big corporate organization and now doesn’t take care of their employees or residents.

Rewarding & Eventful
General Manager (Current Employee) - Surrey, BC - 8 September 2022
I am still new to Senior's Living as I have only been in the industry and with VRS for just over a year. To date I am enjoying the challenge and the ability to make a difference in the lives of Senior's on a day over day basis. There are certainly some challenges that have to worked through but I have found our team to be very committed to the residents. Senior's Living, in my opinion, is a great opportunity for those who like hospitality. I liaison with Head Office frequently and in my experience they are always responsive and helpful.

Not a real IT job for anyone trying to stay busy
IT Coordinator (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 6 June 2022
IT Coordinator\Support for this position should be done by one person because there is no work for an extra IT person. Stay away from this position if it is posted because the manager is very fickle about a position they are supposedly going to retire from.

Good place to work
RCA (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 29 May 2022
It's a small company where you can work comfortably and without unnecessary stress, where you apply not only your direct working skills but other talents, where you can be a part of team and work independently in the same time.

Incompetent upper management
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) - Penticton, BC - 24 March 2022
Being that the upper management works a different schedule than they expect from their employees. Don’t spen enough time there to really know what it going on. If you like answering e mails from people you were just in their office and wasting time with opp meetings that take up an hour. Not a good experience for me lured me out of a job I had for 15 years with lies about benefits and bonuses.

Seniors were lovely but the staff and management were awful
Reception/Server (Former Employee) - Penticton, BC - 22 March 2022
I adored working with the seniors but management was all over the place. I only worked there for a couple of months and the turn over of staff was pretty high. I applied for one position but was thrown into a handful of other duties that I did not apply for.

Clients were lovely, however, management was bad
Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) - Victoria, BC - 7 February 2022
Management was toxic. It drives hard-working, and valuable employees away. The clients were lovely, but it didn't make up for the toxic work environment. Employees were always in a bad mood. Witnessed bullying from higher up towards lower down staff. Part of the job included responding to first aid situations like heart attacks, first aid, strokes, falls etc, despite not being a nurse or health care professional. This caused a lot of trauma. The only plus was one particular manager who had my back and stood up for me, and the clients were so kind and sweet
Pros
Free lunches/meals on shift part of a union
Cons
no compensation for TB testing ($50) and first aid courses ($150 ~), the salary was not nearly enough for the amount of work and trauma that the job caused

Jobs at VRS Communities Society
Less than desirable hours. No full time.
Resident Care Attendant (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 8 August 2021
They hire you as a casual employee which does not guarantee hours. The permanent postings that come up are rarely full time (very few company wide for care aides) and often include weekends. Even after years with the company I don't foresee having weekends off for a very long time.

Not so great
Food Service Worker (Former Employee) - Surrey, BC - 16 May 2020
I did not have great experience working for this company. Management is difficult and disorganized. Unrealistic expectation for the wage. Employees not really appreciated or valued. Just like other private Homes nothing special. You can get better wage and treatment doing this kind of work for another company that will appreciate your hard work.

Tough job for the new ones
Program Worker (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 7 December 2018
You can’t disagree with anything management says. Colleagues are usually in a bad mood and it’s difficult to learn. Not a very welcoming environment, the pay is ok but not great for the work that is done.
Pros
Clients are great
Cons
Colleagues, management.

Very poor management.
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) - Osoyoos, BC - 15 September 2018
Unfortunately poor management drives good hard working staff away.. constant staff turnover very difficult on aging residents. Toxic work environment. New staff hired for more then proven long term staff.
Pros
Free meal per shift benefits after 3 months
Cons
Poor management, irregular schedules forced o/t unhealthy work environment

Depending on the house you work in could be chilled relaxed or over worked
Care Aide (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 16 August 2018
As I stated it really just depends on what house you get trained and assigned to. The location I was placed I enjoyed working with the clients and working solo shifts.

Great Clients, Difficult Company
Program Worker (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 15 October 2017
Clients are fantastic but Management and HR really tough to work with; client to staff ratios are always a challenge & the job can be very physically demanding from all the peri care. Otherwise, programing is always fun and management is flexible and encouraging when it comes to planning programs. Good benefits but not great wages.
Pros
Fun, creative, great colleagues and clients.
Cons
Management and HR. Wage
