MRB Liaison Engineer, Creation (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC9 November 2018
Good place to work, very much 'old school' . My contract was short term, so not too much to say beyond that. The people were very helpful and team oriented.. A family environment.

Production Manager (Former Employee) –  Sidney, BC29 March 2018
Senior Management is weak and leads by fear. Most in management have no idea about aviation and don't listen to those who do. Lots of frustration and finger pointing.

wages are competitive and benefits good
Aviation Machinist (Former Employee) –  Sidney, BC24 January 2018
The hard part to swallow is the animosity between the union and management Wages and benefits are industry standard. Four ten hour days are a bit long and there is NO flexibility in different start times for the production workers. Overtime is a constant requirement when the rush is on.

The aviation business is cyclic and with the downturn four years at Viking and layoff of some of the best employees at the time. Layoff weren't based on seniority, which they should have been, otherwise what's the point of seniority?

Overall they do pay for training at BCIT or Camosun College. Good benefits and vacation and competitive wage.
Pros
Pay, four day work week, benefits.
Cons
Hostility between management and Union employees

Some good some bad
Production Manager (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC23 October 2017
There are many great leaders at Viking. There are also a few power leaders who lead from fear, old style yelling, and unattainable targets. The union environment leaves something to be desired as it is a constant Union/Viking battle and there are little to no social programs where the union and the company integrate.
Pros
Benefits and profit sharing
Cons
long hours (in management) and few healthy relationships

Terrible company culture. Management is inept and out of touch with its work force. Managers are trained to bully and intimidate thier workers. Company has sub contracted the majority of its work out of country and laid off many hard workers. Neptism and corruption run deep. Employment thier is merely a monotony exchange.
Pros
Wages/benfits
Cons
Manditory overtime, bullying, intimidation, toxic environment

Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB1 April 2015
Paid the highest wages in the industry and benefits. management was tyrannical(snooping through garbage cans looking for food wrappers on the floor ect ect. and were not sure if they were coming or going.

Very buddy buddy. If you were buddies with a boss or manager you were guaranteed to advance ,

Clean work environment. Best benefits in the entire industry as well as vacation. Just management was very poor and a lot of nepotism and buddy buddy.
Pros
Awesome pay and benifits
Cons
Poor managment

Structures technician (Former Employee) –  Calgary ab10 February 2014
I worked at viking for four years. In that time I watched it go from the best Job I've ever had to just a huge disappointment. With the exception of a few, the management is under educated and knows nothing about airplanes, and quite frankly doesn't deserve to be around them at all. Once the Americans took over, that was the end,Just a huge disappointment all around. Too bad. It had such potential too. Great people through. Some of my best friends work there, not me though. Couldn't stand the double digit IQ management team
Pros
Great benefits
Cons
You are just a number to them

avionics Contract work (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB13 January 2014
I was just wondering if i could work more and have some training. Such as, the assemble a airplane together, the installation of wings of an airplane, the most enjoyable, and the worst parts too little training. I have never done any kind of woke on new aircraft assembling in my life! Hope someone can enlighten me somewhere.
Pros
like to work on airplane
Cons
find very little help

Good work, good coworkers, terrible management!
Aircraft assembler (Current Employee) –  Calgary, ab14 April 2013
We made history in this company. Bringing the Canadian built twin otter back into production! A sense of pride, Canadian pride! Started as a great place to work, highly competitive wages, clean work, great benefits package! But recently they have placed an American in the GM position. Worst idea ever! He is in the process of taking away Canadian work/ jobs/ pride away from us and shipping it down south of the border to a previous company of his. Job security out the window for lots of us here and many other company's across Canada who's work is now also being sent down south. Canadian built twin otter? No more! Morale in shop way down, not very fun to work at anymore.
Pros
highly competitive wages
Cons
terrible management

Aircraft assembler (Current Employee) –  Calgary14 April 2013
Build brand new twin otters! Pretty cool! Made history bringing this canadian aircraft back into production. Started as a fantastic company to work for, free lunches, fantastic benefits package, and highly competitive wages. Recently put an American in the GM position. Worst idea ever! Giving lots of Canadian work/ jobs to America. So much for our Canadian pride! Job security is questionable, training is non-existent, morale is way down.
Pros
competitive wages
Cons
shift work, no appreciation
