Worth your time if you have good work ethic
Wouldn't you like to know (Current Employee) –  Oshawa, ON19 November 2019
Been with the company for 9+ years. Started at the bottom. Advanced quickly due to hard work and showing up every day.
Working in the elements isn't for the weak, but there is always room for advancement if you put in the time and effort. Company is continually growing.
Average wages to start, but annual raises are common for hard workers.

Fast pace but helpful environment
Data Entry Clerk (Current Employee) –  Oshawa, ON11 August 2019
A typical day at the office is fast pace, long hours and multitasking. Greet walk-in's, answering phone calls and e-mails. You will need to stay focused on your tasks at hand, the office can get loud and busy at times. Handling lots of paperwork and siting for long periods of time.
Working at Velcan you get the opportunity to learn the material that was used to build your home. If you work hard and show dedication management will bring opportunities to you. Great place to constantly learn about the products and different tasks and procedures.
The hardest part of the job is sometimes dealing with difficult customers. However, management is really good at stepping in and dealing with them.
The most enjoyable part of the job is there is always something to do. If you're willing to show initiative and learn.
Pros
Busy, Helpful co-workers, Learning, Flexible time off
Cons
Difficult customers, Out of date programs

Make you or break you
Order Picker/Forklift Operator (Current Employee) –  Oshawa8 March 2019
The weak of mind, the weak body and the weak willed need not apply. Velcan is not for everyone. However if you have a strong work ethic, are self motivated and driven with attention for details you can advance quite quickly. Working outside in the elements is tough, but with the proper attire ie RAIN GEAR, and thermal clothing its manageable. Velcan will give almost anyone an opportunity. If you apply yourself and show up everyday you will find you have a good job, with full time hours, benefits. Beware of flunkies who couldnt hack it, attempting to tarnish this company. Slackers, slouchers and the subversive type fail where ever they go. Dont let their false bravado steer you away from a potentially amazing opportunity.
Pros
Management that genuinely care about their people and the conditions within the company, Work with a great team of iron willed go getters, Benefits, FT employment. Decent wages. Plenty of opportunity for advancement.
Cons
Work in the elements year round, Physical labour.

Worst place I ever worked!
General Labourer (Former Employee) –  Oshawa, ON6 February 2019
I worked there for four months and they couldn't decide where to keep me, kept moving me around from one thankless back-breaking job to another. The pay is barely enough to get by and I've heard from others that work there that they are very cheap when it comes to raises and reviews. They don't care about how bad the weather is, they expect you to do way too much even through the worst blizzards and storms. Most of the people that work there are arrogant, and I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them. I've never seen a company so disorganized and don't care about their employees. I would highly recommend staying away from this company, you could do so much better.
Pros
None
Cons
Lousy pay, no advancement, terrible and unsafe work conditions, very hard work, awful management

Worst company ever.
Forklift Operator/Order Picker (Former Employee) –  Oshawa, ON29 January 2019
The job involves standing outside for extended periods, strapping even though it was not what you were hired for, but nobody genuinely wants to be a strapper so they quit left right and center and the company is forced with no other option than to ask forklift drivers to strap, meanwhile they hire a new untrained forklift driver and allow them to drive unliscenced. This is how they reel people in. Nobody lasts longer than a few months, and if they do they are the genuine hardest workers being taken advantage of because they don't know any different. Do yourself a huge favor and run. You don't need money this bad. Go on welfare serve coffee, do whatever you have to do but just avoid this company at all costs because in the end all you'll get is an abusive boss, 50 cents above minimum wage, and a wonderful chance to stand outside rain, snow or hurricane without a shelter in -30° weather for a paycheck that is too hard earned but will never cover necessities.
Pros
You become in tune with mother nature, so in tune that you are one with the earth, during all catastrophies as you are standing outside, dealing with every aspect you can think of, Also your coworkers will hate their jobs just as much, so you'll at least have people who you can banter with about how miserable the job is.
Cons
Pay. Job. Management.

Terrible
bander (Former Employee) –  Oshawa, ON26 November 2018
Hands down worst job I've ever had. Management are a bunch of bullies, and are bigots. You have to deal with moody ex con forklift drivers all day who can't do their job and blame you for it. Then when it comes to banding the order, none of the machines work. And when you go try to fix it matinience yells at you, and when you get back the forklift driver, supervisor, and any other bander yells at you for trying to fix it. Oh, and when all your clothing and belongings break from the tracherous yard conditions, you must pay for it yourself! I recommend being homeless over working here.
Pros
Decent hours
Cons
Everything

A long way from fair trade
General Labourer (Former Employee) –  Oshawa, ON25 November 2018
Do you enjoy working long hours outside in the cold, rain and/or snow for near minimum wage? Do you fancy the idea of having to spend hundreds of dollars on equipment required for the job all out of your own pocket? Do you enjoy trying to do a job with broken/ faulty (or complete lack of) tools required to do the job?

Well good news! This is just the job for you!

At Velcan Forest Products you can expect some miserably cold and wet days. Hopefully you will find much solace in the fact that your gross pay is a few cents over minimum wage
Pros
You get to wear a snazzy vest
Cons
You're payed the same or less than kids pouring coffee or flipping burgers in a warm restaurant

Fun Work Environment and Great Team
Office Administrator (Current Employee) –  Greely, ON25 September 2018
The team here is great to work with. The bosses are very easy going and caring. Full-time work with benefits and a great learning experience. Long work days, but the money is worth it and they are flexible with scheduling time off for appointments.

Forklift Operator (Former Employee) –  Oshawa, ON22 November 2017
The company itself is not good to their employees, they will turn a blind eye to safety hazards and dangerous bahaviors by employees and supervisors.
The workload was always different and kept things interesting and the people that you would work with made the job enjoyable.
Pros
Good people, decent work, when available a lot of overtime
Cons
poor office management, office managament not willing to help employees
