Not interested in making it better

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The management team does little to help the operation side of things. They talk a lot but nothing has yet to improve or change. It's a decent place to work if your only interested in a pay cheque but it you're the type of person that wants to do more and try hard to make things better you'll just get frustrated and leave. They have a lot of people come and go.

Regina Location Credit Dept

The credit department is a mess, it is being run by a man that doesnt care about the employees' wellbeings, and who has slim to none knowledge about the actual workings of his own department, and would not be capable of training newcomers now that his entire Regina team has quit. The workplace is not covid safe, there is little sanitization and no one cares about social distancing. The credit department are fully capable of WFH, but the man running the department refuses to allow his workers to, or picks and chooses based on who knows what, despite productivity never being impacted when credit department was WFH in the early stages of covid. You definitely will be forced to do the jobs of others. There is absolutely 0 recognition for going above and beyond. The pay is also low for the industry. The only redeeming quality about the job was that the coworkers were great, but they have all since realized their worth and moved on.

Pros

Everywhere except the credit dept in regina functions relatively smoothly, and the Ops side is run incredibly well in Regina

Cons

Not covid safe. Low pay. No recognition. No empathy.

Wow!

The people in Delta are kids in men/women’s bodys. Management are rude and dont like to help you learn. They throw you in this position and train you with very little info and when you ask questions they tend to humiliate you in front of the office with the expectation that you should know everything by now. Yup even in your first days there. This is such a stressful environment. The pay is so low for the work expected. Would not recommend working here unless you are on your last end. The language is very colourful too especially in the shipping office. You need to have a very thick skin to work in here. And they seem to want you to fail in your work so they can have something to complain about in their Monday meetings. “Very negative place”. Don’t do it unless you want to have drama in your life. Maybe ask them why there is such a high turn over in the reception area. And balance of workload is highly unfair. Unfortunately staff will not get to know you in the Admin role because they know you will not be around in 3 months. Tip: Look in managers calendar for your initials in 3 months time. That is your end date. Very high turnover.

Pros

Free donuts

Cons

Incompetent management

Read to find out.

Worked here for five years. Most people who worked here are kids in mens bodys, Most guys are rude and dont like to help you learn thing. The pay was low for the work expected and the only thing I enjoyed while working here was the management of the branch. Corporate is a joke, I was never compensated for a raise that took over 7 months to get. Would not recommend working here unless you are on your last end.

Pros

Pizza day every 6 months

Cons

Extreme dhickholes who work here

Good company to work for

Good working environment. Friendly co workers. Great support from the head office. I would have stayed but the market slow down made cut backs necessary.

Unrealistic expectations

Worked nearly the entire winter outdoors with very little help, very few breaks and inferior equipment with no heat...then on my last day before my probation was up was let go without any real reason. Outdoor winter work wear wasnt provided or paid for by the employer and asking for help was like getting blood from a stone.

Decent place to work

Could treat employees better. But group overall where good to work with. Pay is fair. Not the best, was a relaxed atmosphere and alot of time allowed to deal with out of office issues. Not alot of positives from pay cuts and increases.

Worst management at prince george branch. Alot of wcb claims their.

The manager and production manager have no experience running a steel shop. I would personally not recommend this company unless your a employee that wants to go on disability. In which case you will be a great fit for this branch.

Solid Company

Varsteel is a good company to work for. They treat their employees well and compensate them fairly. The management team is solid, but I would say that communication can be lacking at times which I found frustrating. But overall, I wouldn't discourage anyone from working here. There isn't alot of turnover, so obviously people are happy.

Micro management and dictatorship

Micromanage your every move, dictated from upper mgmt in lethbridge, that's in all positions. Trucks are gps tracked and if stopped for more than 5 min. They are calling you, not allowed outside calls.

First Manager was good

The first manager was good at his job, the following two were not good at their jobs. The pay was ok, for Winnipeg, benefits cost the employee about $250/month. The blue collar folks and the sales were decent people.

Fast paced work environment

The workplace culture here is very safety focused, employees and management spent a large amount of time working towards improving safety for the warehouse staff and any contract workers who enter the building.

Lead hand is a rude miserable ******

Management seems fair the work is tedious my only issue is the group lead on my shift was a serious bully... He never has nothing nice to say always blowing off incredibly rude judgmental/racial comments. Dirty looks screaming at you throwing things at you Micro managing you.... Its like he wants you to quit. The most toxic person who just brings waves of negative energy. Trust me this will severely lower you're quality of life not worth it at all. Also they have a serious rodent problem.

Pros

steady work

Cons

toxic people/person

Stressful and never paid for what you worked

Anyone who takes the driver position be extremely careful. They will make you work through all your daily breaks and you will still be deducted for a half hour lunch yet you will work through it. The truck is not up to safety code, it's a cvse inspection waiting to happen. The driver will receive fines and if you complain to management they will make up an excuse and terminate you.

Cons

Never paid for what you work. Truck is not road legal. H
