Job culture
Bureaucratic, hypocratic, top-heavy
IH espouses values of courage, aspire, respect and empathy (CARE). In practice nothing could be further from the truth. Decisions are made from the top and employees are expected to follow without dissent. Golden handcuffs keep people in positions. IH is a major employers on the Island and options for good benefits and wages are not plentiful. People stay stuck and are miserable....lunch room conversations center on retirement plans and holidays. There is no room for passion, employee engagement and talent. There is so much rhetoric- for example, the organization espouses person-centered care but financial considerations clearly are the drivers of service delivery. Advocacy for patient care is either met with deaf ears or maligned. There are amazing individuals working for IH, but unhappiness abounds. Staff are overworked and morale is extremely low.
