Good salary, benefits, managers, admin support
Nurse (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 29 June 2022
Featured review
Vancouver Coastal Health selected this as a representative reviewOverall great experience compared to other health authorities. Primary care culture makes it hard to have good work-life balance. Managers in my area were very supportive and helpful

Healthcare culture as a whole needs to change
Clinical Education Assistant (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 6 June 2023
So this is not a VCH specific critique, but considering the lip service they do towards fostering culture, there should be more support for managers for how to support this at the team level. I have worked on teams where this was done incredibly well because the directors and managers took it upon themselves and on teams where the opposite is also true. It’s time for the change to come from within to keep people wanting to participate in healthcare jobs!

Fun workplace but it depends on the area
Housekeeping (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 18 May 2023
Hands down VCH has great benefits, but that’s it, it can be a great place to work but it depends on the area, I feel unfortunate I got the worst place to work with VCH, it was run by old privileged employees and management with no backbone, but still I recommend to work here for personal needs, employees still have opportunities to go around and find their sweet spot.
Pros
Benefits
Cons
Old privileged employees

Supportive management
RN Case Manager (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 7 May 2023
I have a great experience in the community team. The managers and supervisors were generally supportive. Good team culture. Workload can be overwhelming sometimes but management does receive feedback well.

It's OK
RN (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 26 April 2023
I do like my coworkers, but it is a very stressful job. We are almost always understaffed. It often seems like more and more tasks get added to our plates.

Good
Mental Health Support Worker (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 31 March 2023
lots of diversity. ITs a Hospital settings. So, Expect to follow medical model. Work on casuals if you like to make your own schedule. everything is online. Some might feel bullied by other coworker. I would personally suggest, dont even bother to complain to management. As management don't do anything. work for 8 hours, get your money and come home. be there physically not mentally. sounds not very ideal but its healthcare. healthcare overall is toxic.

PCN Leadership is Garbage
Administrative Support (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 11 March 2023
No sense of direction from supervisors and management and leadership, you will be fired or terminated the moment they no longer see you as valuable, or are disabled.
Pros
None, do not join.
Cons
Everything

Jobs at Vancouver Coastal Health
Productive and fun workplace. Great team
X-Ray Technologist (Current Employee) - Coquitlam, BC - 3 March 2023
Super enjoyable, enjoying the career so far. Management needs to step it up a bit. Sometimes can have workplace drama. Some people are super lazy cuz they know they won’t get fired.

Stressful and impossible management and workload
Clerk (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 2 March 2023
My experience as Clerical staff in various positions over 10 years. Environment and Management breeds toxicity among staff whom are over-worked and not valued for the amount of work being done and pay not being appropriate. Jobs will be phased out, or additional projects will be added, and placed onto other staff who are already expected to perform a workload that is near impoosible to complete during your shift.
Pros
It's a paycheck
Cons
Toxic work environment

Chaotic work environment
Casual RN (Former Employee) - Rotating sites - 22 February 2023
I was hired as casual then before I started work I was offered a full time position. While at work during my 1st week VCH called and rescinded the full time job and put me back to casual status!
Pros
Free parking
Cons
Long shifts, shifts difficult to get

Busy and rewarding
Booking Clerk/Secretary (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 7 February 2023
I like the people I work with. Management is great. Pay could be better for the volume of work you have, but what's new. I find it rewarding to provide service to patients, even if a friendly helpful face can ease their anxiety - that is a nice reward.

Out for dinner paid for
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Richmond, BC - 28 January 2023
Ok. But …busy, very busy! Always using my skills from previous experience, hard to receive any time for continuing education. The culture has changed over the years; where nurses were respected with their input, now seems senior management doesn’t want front line input. It always appears to be be about getting more money, not patient safety or satisfaction ! We should be there for them! Not making money for hospitals! Always finding more ways to skimp and save dollars while putting patients and staff at risk!
Pros
Patients
Cons
Too for profit

Good place to work with great potential for growth
Overdose Outreach Mental Health Worker (Former Employee) - DTES - 25 January 2023
Management was very supportive of me. Even when I had to go on mat leave quickly after I started the job. Lots of ability to move forward within the community. And they help pay for some student loans as well if you want to upgrade your schooling.
Pros
room for growth
Cons
Health care can be hard and you are stretched thin

Good pay and benefits
RN (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 2 January 2023
Need to be more attentive to employee feedback, morale and growth opportunities. Structural supports in place. Workplace culture could be more positive.

Very stressful place to work
Management team (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 14 December 2022
None of the management team had a good work life balance. Immediate manager very supportive, upper management not so much! Other members of the team had too much input into the running of the organization.

Overall great place to work
Nurse Practitioner (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 11 December 2022
I love VCH. It’s a great place to work. I had a problematic manager in a very high stress work place. Upper management though was exceptionally helpful. Unfortunately, I left the complaint too long and by the time things were being addressed I was just exhausted. I took the next job available in my field which was, unfortunately, in another health authority.
Pros
Professional progressive environment ; room to thrive
Cons
