Not a great place
Truck Driver - Class 1 (Former Employee) –  Prince George, BC20 January 2020
Management is inexperienced to the point of making decisions about customers based on who makes their job easier ...pushes to the point of ridiculous...pay is below average. Co workers and the Union/benefits are the only benefit. I would not recommend lightly, but it is a paycheck...weekends off.

Excellent Work for Student
Labourer (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC30 November 2019
The times I was going to school really worked well with this company. The Good news is that they have a summer relief position that really helped me get some money together for the next semester. Would totally work there again

Billing Supervisor is a Bully
Billing Clerk (Former Employee) –  Surrey, BC17 September 2019
Pay and benefits are great. Management allows Brandi the Billing Supervisor to play favourites. She would evaluate you as not doing enough when she decides she doesn't like you. She would only allow certain people whom she favors to play their music or be on their phones. The only people she can't touch are the ones who has been there longer than her. You have to suck up to her to if you want to work at VanKam long term. Good luck.

a hard working trucking company. but a good place to work
forklift operator semi truck loader (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC30 January 2019
its a trucking company. what you get out of it directly relates to what you put into it. there is lots of work and ways to help the company grow.i learned to drive a forklift, load a semi truck safely. eventually i learned to shunt trailers and hook up rocky mountian twin 53 foot sets.i learned the lower mainland area and how to direct freight to be delivered

One of the better trucking companies in western Canada
Profession Driver (Current Employee) –  Surrey BC22 July 2018
One of the better trucking companies because they pay for most of the time on the job including: chaining up, road closure standby time, and waiting for trailers to be loaded/unloaded.

Good benefit package including long and short disability, which is handy because the job is dangerous at times - several drivers have had serious illnesses and injuries requiring long periods off from work.

Unfortunately they have lost some big contracts and cut drivers mileage resulting in lower pay - 20% in the past 2 years.

Equipment is sub par and they don't do speedy repairs resulting in break downs.

Management are difficult to deal with, every problem is automatically the driver's fault and they won't listen to your side of the story unless you have proof, cover your rear every day is the name of the game, or you'll be hauled on to the carpet.

Advice to Management: increase business so that driver wages can go back up to pre 2016 levels and this will help to stop driver turn over.

Find better managers who look to solve problems rather than finding ways to blame and harass the drivers.

Good co-workers and good benefits

operations support clerk
Support Clerk (Former Employee) –  Canada18 May 2018
I worked here for half a year as a clerk. I didn't get along with many people but the job was OK. A typical day is in the truck for about 3 hours and the rest by the paper splitting desk and on you're computer desk either billing or doing something else. The hardest part of the job was the people who I worked with. The job was fairly easy.

Overall the job was fine.
Pros
Salary, The job was alright

Do not waste your time!
Driver/Delivery (Current Employee) –  Victoria, BC15 March 2018
Terrible place to work
The dispatch is very unorganized and blatantly lies to customers to make the drivers look bad when there freight is late. The drivers are not supported by the company at all they look for anything to reprimand you. The owners enjoy making it tough for the drivers and obviously don’t give a hoot about them. Some of the trucks and equipment are in poor working order.
Pros
If you like to be constantly yelled at and disrespected this is the place to work
Cons
Long hours no life work Balance - forced OT, Don’t try and make a doctors appointment etc dispatch goes out of its way to mess you up

NIght night
Long Haul Driver (Former Employee) –  Kamloops, BC12 March 2018
Mostly nights and LCV's. The management try as hard as possible to accomadate personal schedules. Dispatchers work with you though sometimes you need to have patience. A lot of good men work there and a few that benefit from a good union. mostly a good place to work

Management unbearable!
Dock Worker (Former Employee) –  Surrey, BC29 May 2017
The management are unprofessional jerks that feel they can talk to anyone however they want. The owner is a MAJOR jerk. The dock workers themselves are mostly ok. But the union only fights for long term members. If your only looking for part time work, it's all you will get for a very long time!
Pros
Loose atmosphere with coworkers!
Cons
Management tyranny, not full time

At times a very stressful place to work
Commercial Trailer Mechanic (Former Employee) –  Surrey, BC23 January 2017
This is a nice place to work as long as you are part of the team
that likes to talk a lot and do as little work as possible . It is a
union shop and I found they were always willing to support the
people in the group mentioned above . If you only want to do
the work you were hired for in an efficient quality way you will
not be in with the crowd and will have little if any union protection
Pros
decent pay and a newer shop with good heat
Cons
shop politics
