i work in a lab where the manager is awesome. it is a service lab where hundreds of samples are analyzed weekly. work hours are quite flexible Wished I could have had the opportunity to get long term contracts.

Great coworkers and organized system

I worked at the OttawaU soccer summer camp and it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had working. The other coaches were awesome, the management was extremely helpful and organized, the location and environment was fantastic. A typical day working was arriving, a morning of drills with a small snack, lunch at the OttawaU cafeteria, an afternoon of games with a snack and then home time.

Pros

Free lunch, Good pay

Cons

No breaks

What is the best part of working at the company?great place to work if keeps hybrid modeWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company?Forcing employees to come to campus, when the work 100% can be done remote.

Good place to work at

Great Place to work

Great place to work, depending on which lab, good opporunity to apply what you've learned outside of the class. Professors and phD students are nice to work with. You get independence most of the time.

Good benefits, but little flexibility

The university offers great benefits and a good work/life balance, but very little flexibility. One of the best benefits is the possibility to be mobile and take part in temporary assignments to gain more experience, but they very rarely let you leave on assignment. There is very little place for advancement. Little support from the high administration or the Faculty

Productive and interesting place to work

Although it started off as in person, during Covid-19 L, the work environment became remote. There was a lot to learn in the beginning but afterwards became quite routine. The lack of travel during the pandemic slowed down the workflow. It was hard having to keep up with the zoom meetings, but there was always help from my manager with day to day tasks.

Pros

Interesting work, central location

Cons

No room for advancement in that particular position

Excellent salaries and benefits. Limited mobility and advancement.

I have been working at this university for over 10 years. Honestly, the job is well paid, but inner mobility and advancement are limited, and complicated, especially for women. Salaries, pension and benefits are competitive . But there are limited opportunities to grow from within, even for very talented, competent, educated, loyal employees. There is an automatic reflex to recruit outside applicants as opposed to helping internal candidates to grow.. If you want to advance, stay there for a few years and move on..

Productive and Fun Workplace

It is a wonderful place to work to and you can get lots of help from your employers. Also they have a very productive process to finish work and it is a fun place to work to.

Good for bilingual students

Good for bilingual students, English courses are harder. Good place to study for art and business students, but not science and engineering. After graduate, had better to move tp other places, because UBC and UT are close to UO.

Fun place, but can be toxic fast

Worked in many departments, some were very nice, some were a bit toxic, overall as far as you speak French you are good. flexible hours not very stressful.

Well intentioned but slow and stingy management

Bogged down by bureaucracy, although many people put in a lot of good effort. The campus lacks vitality, it needs an art gallery, more culture and liveliness.

Experience varies

Experience working at the University of Ottawa will vary. I have worked for amazing, competent and kind managers and I have worked for truly awful ones. Research the department you intent to work for well and look at the employee retention rates.

Great place to work as a student

Great place to work as a student. Lots of opportunities for interesting research and generally flexible. Funding is dependent on the supervisor and varies depending on the project resources.

Productive and good job

Overall, a positive experience. The pay is sufficient for a student to cover expenditures while studying. You will also learn many things from that course.

Productive workplace

Challenging environment with fair pay. The university offers the advantage of having free education for the employee and his dependents which is great!
