I had an excellent experience. The University provides a diverse and great environment to work. The workplace culture is collaborative, and I have learned a lot during the time I worked there.

fun place

typical is a characteristic or behavior that is normal and expected for a given person or thing or in a given situation. An example of something that would be described as typical is your typical boring day at work where you do the same things you do every other day.

Casual employment

Working as a casual employee for several years is difficult to gain permanent offers. I enjoyed the staff and environment very much but need something more stable.

Workplace with advancement opportunities, good benefits, and constant learning

The most enjoyable part of my job is working with research study patients and knowing that I get to help make an impact in peoples lives. The workplace is very friendly and there is a sense of teamwork. There are also learning opportunities such as going to research rounds and presentations as part of your workday. Lots of the talks are interesting and applicable to what you do.

Research/Teaching Assistant

Being a graduate student is not easy. The only way to make a little money is to get Research and/or Teaching Assistantship. It will give you enough money to survive, but by no means a comfortable life. So you feel underpaid. But you are in it to get a Master or PhD degree, so that is ok.

Productive and fun - strong ability to develop those who want to learn

I've learned that through working at the university that there are many support systems for those who need it while working here. The people that I have worked with are fast paced and smart individuals who continue to out their best foot forward everyday, which drives me to continue to work hard.

opinion

Traveling to the work place and having long hours are the hardest part. The complexity of the patient(s) make it very difficult to attempt to be holistic and try to see numerous patients in one day. See more people is not always the answer.

Pros

pot luck lunches

Cons

workplace complexity to make change happen

Lack of professionalism

Professional staff treated with little respect and support. Pay is well below similar roles, no benefits and travel to various sites without any remuneration. Pay is not always the most important part of your job; if you feel respected, appreciated and treated with dignity, money is secondary.

Pros

some autonomy

Cons

hostile workplace

NIce Environment

UofM is a very beautiful campus and the people are very friendly and collaborative there. The multicultural scenario makes it easier for students and workers coming from other countries to adapt. The only downside I can think is that Winnipeg is a very cold city, so think well before taking the decision of going there.

Pros

Friendly, beautiful, multicultural

Cons

Cold

Productive and fun workplace with great staff

I was fun to work with such a huge organization as the opportunities are endless. I, unfortunately, was only hired on a contract base which was completed one month after starting. However, given the opportunity, I would gladly work there again.

a safe and a friendly work place and also a job that can keep me occupied for long hours.

the enjoyable part of the job is that your actually providing a service for people. i also like managing anything to be honest and i am also uncomfortably punctual and honest sometimes even to honest for instance if i notice that someone is slacking in their responsibilities i indirectly criticize them for being irresponsible. i believe in order for you to succeed and reach your goal in anything for that matter, you have to put your mind into it and work really hard to achieve it. nothing in this world is for free.

Pros

learning a new experience

Cons

long hours of work

Great Workplace

As a clinical educator, you have the opportunity to work in various facilities and get to know many different people. The university staff is supportive and helpful. Benefits are good when you have them. Being this is term (sessional) work there are no benefits during the Christmas season when you are off yet you have through the summer during the longest time off.

Pros

Different work environments

Cons

Long Hours

Research-based, postdoctoral job

Working on a discovery and rodent testing of potential neuroprotective pharmaceuticals. There was not much coherency within the Department and my work was very much focused specifically on my mentor's interests.

Pros

intellectually challenging, stimulating, novel

Cons

working on rodents was difficult

Diverse community with lots to offer

I appreciated the friendly and helpful atmosphere at the university, as well as the various amenities offered on campus. Overall work life balance is quite good at the university. My only criticism for the university is for career entry positions which are often offered as three to six month contracts with the possibility of extensions. It is not uncommon to have two to three years, or longer, of such contracts before a permanent position can be procured.
