Fun workplace
Kitchen Staff (Former Employee) - University centre - 10 July 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedNothing to complain about. I worked at Degrees diner. The management is fantastic. Though busy at times, work is fun due to supportive management. Overall a great learning experience working there as a student. You also get tips which makes it even better and the food during your shift is free for you, which is again good money.

Caretaker (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 30 March 2017
Working at the university was a really fun place to work. It had it's up's and down's. With absolutely no communication what so ever from the higher up's lots of things were a disaster. But with the awesome employees working there, job's got done, the stress was minimal and the days went by quick.
Pros
awesome people
Cons
a minimal amount of communication

Diverse and friendly place with interesting people
Caretaker (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 20 January 2016
Being a caretaker is mainly lock and unlock the entrance of the building. Then I will sweep the floors and empty the garbage. Before class started, I would set up the classroom. Sometime I also do set up for some events, like gallery opening, exhibition, etc. During the class time, I will clean the washrooms and stairs. Then I will clean up the door and window.
From my experience, I have learnt another division of school. And I get to know all the staff that work for university is hard-working so that school can keep running. In addition, if you want to do something big, start from small things.
The management in university is really good. My supervisor is very considering. And he is really good at organizing. Sometimes when we lack of help, because people may take holiday or they are sick. He can always fix the problem and make arrangement easily.
My co-workers are all very friendly and helping. They are from different culture, so it is more like a big diverse family.
The hardest part of the job is that I have to wake up really early in the morning, around 4:30am.
The most enjoyable part of this job is the working environment and atmosphere on campus.
Pros
Diverse Culture
Cons
Wake up too early

Gute Vertiefung der Sprachkenntnisse
Auslandsaufenthalt (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 18 January 2016

Jobs at University of Manitoba
Overall, a great project to work on and to use my experiences! Gained an extended experience from project coordination to data collection & analysis.
Research Coordinator (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 10 December 2014
Day start with checking emails and replying. Then move to research based work, for example, report writing, data collection and management, and data analysis. This depends on the priority of the work and/or deadlines. Everyday coordination also involved.
Learned about the job expectation of a research coordinator.
Management and co-workers are helpful. A nice team to work with!
Hardest part of the job is that some times admin work took a sufficient amount of time from the research work.
Most enjoyable part of the job is to work with the team, opportunities to improve clients life, scope of working independently, and overall, the project itself.

Teaching English to Francophones
Animator (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 28 March 2013
One of the most important things I've learned is that when people are trying to speak in a second language, let them finish their thoughts and then make comments after. You run the risk of embarrassing them or making them lose their thought entirely. This position was one of my first in a "classroom setting". I learned a lot about planning, time management and balancing activities. Many thanks for the opportunity.

Business Manager (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 11 February 2013
My 40 year career span within the hospital enviroment was very educational and rewarding. I started as an Accounting Clerk and very quickly, due to my abilitiies and willingness to learn, was advanced into higher positions i.e. Accountant, Junior Accountant, Senior Accountant and lastly Budget Accountant. I worked very closely with the University of Manitoba as the Health Sciences Centre is a Teaching Hospital and with our funding agencies (Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Manitoba Health Services Commission).
Pros
excellent team oriented co-workers and management
Cons

Lively with lots to learn
Research Assistant (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 6 December 2012
It was a wonderful experience as I worked on a topic related to aging. The supervisor was very helpful and I learnt various laboratory skills. The hardest part of the job was to perform assays using outdated devices. The most enjoyable part of the job was to meet the world renowned scientists and learn about their ongoing research. The management was very good except the replacement of the damaged devices always took very long.
Pros
on campus location
Cons
had to work overtime without getting paid for it
