START Facilitator (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON15 April 2019
Recent changes in management and funding cuts have made things a little frustrating, but its still my favorite workplace so far. Work culture is very pro-development and supervisors want to see you succeed.
Pros
free lunch at training
Cons
occasional hour cuts

Part time custodial staff (Current Employee) –  Guelph, ON14 January 2019
The job involves a great deal of walking around campus and cleaning whatever buildings you've been assigned to. You're often autonomous from management, and so long as you have an eye for detail and cleanliness, it is a great job.
Pros
autonomous from management
Cons
Early starts

Teacher's Assistant (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON18 December 2018
Working as a TA for the University of Guelph is extremely rewarding. The work load is heaviest when assignments come due as you can easily end up marking 40 kids depending on the class size and the assignment difficulty. Professors typically try to work around your schedule. They understand you're busy. All around great atmosphere

Research Assistant Review
Undergraduate Research Assistant (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON12 December 2018
Under the wing of a student and grad student, I was an assistant to help with recording animal behaviours and take pictures using a thermo. camera.

Helping volunteer for both studies regarding 2 completely different species provided knowledge of heat output and animal behaviours seen in captivity.

The management workplace was generally nice as they provided snacks along the way. However, when in the extreme heat, it was not ideal to be recording.

Overall, I ad fun volunteering to provide help as an research assistant.
Pros
free snacks, friendly student
Cons
too hot, sometimes boring

people in unions complain too much. it was a good job. Vets are crazy and have god complexes for the most part. Ive chosen to get out of the field because vets are crazy and they are not good employers.
Pros
good salary

The work is not hard and is in a laid-back environment. My primary job is to keep computers up to date and troubleshoot technical problems. I occasionally upgrade computers and reimage operating systems.

The education itself was wonderful and interesting. Although on occasion difficult to understand. Extra help could be unhelpful as well as difficult to find the time to arrange. The professors were in general very interesting and well informed on their subjects.

ASSISTANT CAMP INSTRUCTOR (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON13 November 2018
A typical day and work is working at a research company and in groups with co-workers. Things being learned out of working here is networking with other co-workers for work-related files and using tools to update files on kept equipment. The workplace has a very descent management with a diverse work culture. Despite productivity and solving new challenges being a challenge, interaction other people and learning new material daily has been the most enjoyable part of the job.

Sessional Lecturer (Current Employee) –  Guelph, ON28 October 2018
Typical university where the primary focus is on research more than teaching. As with most universities you work fairly independently as a lecturer but they have an excellent resource center to help with teaching and student interactions.

Radiation Safety Officer (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON21 October 2018
Glad to be of service to them BUT would not want to be "stuck" contracting or employed forever other than the money, in the long view of things.

They attract many highly skilled and motivated people for every aspect of their internal programs as far as I can tell. As well, had the great pleasure to work with a high quality "crop" of new scientific and academic staff in STEM areas with which I was acquainted, but noted a relatively high level of frustration with inefficiencies and unnecessary hurdles put in the way of progress. In-fighting and other nasty cultural problems seem low or non-existent in the STEM departments and I hope it always remains that way so that energies and inspiration is not sapped down this unproductive path.

University itself could probably do a LOT more to recover and flesh out some departments now, to me, seemingly languishing due to favouring of one scientific area over another. Have seen a Physics department, for instance, shrink badly due to inadequate University and government support - possibly relying on the School's other areas of excellence such agri and vet studies to be an attractive research institute. This is a dangerous viewpoint in my opinion.
Pros
renumeration and benefits
Cons
poor management overall: no ability to motivate talented staff

Being able to work along side the other students in the university on their research projects, learning and engaging about new finding as well as participating in an interesting research topic.
