Professional and highly competitive

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Excellent place to work if you want to learn and grow. Very fast-paced multi-tasking and highly competitive, Salary raises do not follow the increase in duties and responsibilities. Benefits are very good Management does not promote or stimulate advancement. They don't promote you so they don't have to increase your pay.

Pros

Cons

salary increases and promotions very difficult to achieve

Productive workplace

I started my career at UH n and have had so much personal and professional growth. This hospital is amazing for ongoing education and teaching and I am so proud to have been able to learn so much during these 10 years here.

Amazing Team

Working with some of the most passionate and caring therapists, I was able to see, first-hand, why patients trust and enjoy coming to Toronto Rehab. The staff are kind, caring, and patient with every patient they encounter.

Good place to work if you don't work shift work

Lots of programs for work life balance and wellness, good food court, clean and convenient to get to. Many employee discounts available. Always felt secure on site when on shifts.

Good work life balance

Good place to work for scientific research, has good work-life balance, but not much in terms of career progression or promotions. The benefits are good.

Depends on the contract

I love working at UHN, people are friendly and helpful. I feel like i am part of a team. Everybody does their job very well. A typical day at work starts with an early morning experiment, cleaning and organizing my bench followed by answering emails or writing up protocols.

Pros

Flexible working hours

Cons

No Windows, No Benefits

Great Workplace with amazing team work

TGH is a great and dynamic place to work with young and energetic staff that work amazing together as a team. The hardest part would be the long hours but the work we do is so amazing that it makes it worth it.

Cons

10 hour shifts, long hours, lack of training

Provides good opportunities for growth

UHN is great training ground to get to know the non-for-profit industry. There are many opportunities to move around internally; this is fully supported by the senior management team to allow the development of expertise in different areas within the organization.

Pros

Growth opportunities

Cons

Frequent wage freeze

The organization is motivated by revenue generating

However, the non-profit organization can not be motivated by revenue generated, unless is a business oriented. It is a great company to work for, but not with the current management style: work more hours with no extra pay - no work-home balance.

Good employer, few opportunities for advancement

Healthcare is a difficult world to advance in because the academic qualifications for advancement from administrative to policy-related work are very steep. If you like people, I recommend a clinical setting for administrative work (ie appointment scheduler) over general administration, which can be tedious and very dull.

Pros

Good benefits, good location (downtown Toronto)

Cons

Few opportunities to advance beyond admin assistant level

Company overall is good

Overall, it is a good company. However, the fusion of phones and paperwork collide and there is no full-time position available (i.e. 9-5, 8-4) without weekends.

Stressful, Fast Paced, Healthcare

What can you say about Canada's largest research and teaching hospital? It's busy. Healthcare is a non stop business operating 24/7 It's not for everyone. You just never know what your day will bring.

Challenging and rewarding work environment.

Dealing with challenging cardiac patients there were a lot of learning opportunities. UHN allowed for professional development and provided an excellent environment to learn new diagnostic procedures for example CT and calcium scoring. Worked with cooperative, fun and professional staff . I learned to prioritize and organize in a very busy environment as well as attain excellent communication skills.

Pros

Learrning opportunities and cutting edge technology.

Cons

inconsistencies when patients arrived very late, early or on wrong day

Independent workplace

Great workplace with lots of benefits and events. Management depends on what project you are working on. That said, there's no ladder to climb, you have to create your own ladder and negotiate what you are worth.
