TRIUMF is fun place to work and meet many people with a variety of technical skills. The best thing about this institution is that it allows a good life/job balance.

Worked there far too long. You won't learn anything new unless you persue a higher level of education and work elsewhere.
Mechatronic Systems Development Engineer (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC27 July 2019
Very Boring Place to work. Work seriously UNChallenging. May be a fun place to work if you're a physicist...that's it. It used to be a place full of serious jerks making working there extremely stressful. If I were you I would give this place a pass.
Pros
Free Lunches.
Cons
Very Boring Place to work, Work seriously Unchallenging

A bit underfunded and slow to evolve.

Standard Post Doctoral Gig
Post Doctoral Research Associate (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC13 May 2019
Exploitative standard post doctoral employment with no clear path to steady work anywhere in Canada. Wage slavery perpetrated by the academic institution.
Pros
Wide hallways
Cons
Detached from living realities

Amazing company with amazing people that are immersed in the history of TRIUMF and are genuinely excited to share its story with the public while accelerating science.

Interesting work, poor managers
Tech Support (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC1 February 2019
The research and projects are interesting; however, new management is trying to change the culture into a fortune 500 manufacturing company. Unfortunately this is not what a scientific research facility is all about and does not apply. LEAN, 6 sigma and 5S stifle research and only put up walls when ideas are supposed to flow.

Great place as a stepping stone in your career; however, get out and apply your new knowledge in industry. Basically a physicist's playground with no understanding of the real world.
Pros
Great benefits and vacation
Cons
Senior management, uninformed project managers and PhD egos

Safety Advisor (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC6 August 2018
Great people to work with and the place is really nice and the science is crazy. Long commute but if you can get past that then it is okay to work there. Lots of nature at your soorstep and cloae to the beach. Work with exciting young talented students in the sciencea and this is always an enlightening experience.
Pros
Ubc is pretty
Cons
Long commute

Caution to people who apply at this place!!!!
Foreman (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC20 August 2017
Management and the HR department don't stick up for the employees. BULLYING is a big problem in this organization, management and HR just turn a blind eye to this issue. This department in particular is dysfunctional, decision making is all over the map and those who are suppose to be 'senior' don't seem to really know what they're doing. Then again management doesn't really seem to care about quality work, so if you're just looking to collect a pay check, then you just might fit in nicely. BUT WATCH YOUR BACK!!!!!
Pros
good co-workers
Cons
management and HR

Electron Linear Accelerator Engineer (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC4 August 2016
9-5 typical work, learned alot about the facility and ongoing projects at the time. Management is decent but definitely needs improvement. Coworkers are great, organizing occasional outing such as hikes and etc. However, it was not the best location to work.

Worked with brilliant minds.
Research Intern (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC29 July 2015
I got a chance to work with some of the most brilliant minds of my generation and the generation leading our particle physics and nuclear physics research.
Working construction was more interesting for me than sitting in front of a computer waiting for 10,000 calculations to compute.
At points I was notably lacking guidance in what I should have been working on.
Pros
Good people
Cons
Programming is boring
