The work that you do at TGLN is very meaningful and impactful. The on-call schedule can be challenging, and you must be flexible and work well in a stressful and fast paced environment

The upper management team likes to blame Gov't cuts to funding for the disorganized chaos found here but the truth is there is no overall structure. Senior staff have no objectivity towards change, dept directors are very dishonest and the level of maturity when dealing with decision making is something comparable to toddlers in a sandbox. Lack of accountability adds to the many issues that are present

The nature of the job is a high stress and fast paced environment. In the SRC position it is an on-call position, with each case being unscheduled and any length of hours as required to complete the case. You are on call for 4 to 5 days at a time and, although exhausting, is extremely rewarding. The most important asset is to have a passion for the job.
Pros
Autonomous when on a case, yet need to work with the OR tem and office coordinators.
Cons
Long unpredictable hours, and mostly nights.

This organization has a great mission and many front-line staff who are dedicated to saving and improving the quality of life for many people. Unfortunately, you quickly find out that there is a lack of respect for any person below management level in the organization. HR support is poor and many toxic behaviours are not addressed. Funded fully by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, funding is somewhat unstable and recent changes in government may soon impact this organization in unexpected ways. Staff below management level are also considered easily replaced and there is often a contentious and controversial atmosphere surrounding the work.
Pros
Great mission in saving and improving lives, caring co-workers.
Cons
Poor management, toxic culture

It hard to work for a boss that you hate, while you love the job. Management doesn't appreciate effort, and the whole organization is built on nepotism.

Management treats all employees as expendable and disrespects all aspects of Organ/Tissue donation.
Does not care about health and safety of employees, only about hitting their "numbers" in order to secure more funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Health.

One particular "Director" stated to all employees that he "owns them" while they are on-call.

Overall not what Organ and Tissue donation should represent in the province of Ontario.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Hours, management, health and safety concerns

- a rewarding place to work and to deal with the public on a variety of issues related to organ and tissue donation
- a strong, dedicated workforce with a noble mission: to save lives

- the hardest and the most enjoyable parts of the job were found in dealing with the public and answering a wide variety of queries, and in conducting research
Pros
Wonderful, dedicated people with whom to work
