Good place to work for a short while
Senior Manager of Business Analysis (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON15 August 2018
Town Shoes Limited, owned by DSW Inc U.S. is a struggling footwear retailer that is trying to find it's niche in a changing Amazon dominated retail market. There main challenge is delivering consistently on projects since collaboration with the U.S. team is not as tight as it needs to be. Management is not top shelf. Nevertheless, it is a good opportunity to learn a few new skills, coping with chaos, and then moving on.
Pros
Relaxed environment
Cons
Disjointed management across the border

Management team is awesome. Working here changed me into a better person and I've seen growth in myself. It's not just a team or coworkers but it's a family! Everyone got each other's back. Best work experience I've got!

"Was" a great place to work
Director of Stores, Western Canada (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON21 June 2018
Town was an amazing place to grow and thrive while the company was lead by the Simpson Family, Since the sale and acquisition by DSW, Town Shoes Limited has become a cold dark place.

Job changed under different ownership
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB30 April 2018
Many perks of the job were affected once the company started to undergo ownership to a corporate. Learned many ways to orient customer interaction through different types of training. Management had structure from brand manager to operations manager, which made it easier to distinguish who to go to for problems. Overall, enjoyable

No clear direction
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON20 April 2018
Thought they had a lot of potential with the new buyout from DSW Inc but it feels like they lack proper direction or at least they don’t know how to successfully trickle the information down to store level. Too many changes that don’t make sense or just aren’t articulated properly so it leaves ppl wondering about job safety.

Keyholder (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON18 April 2018
This company is very biased and does not like to be told they are wrong. They could care less about their employees and only do things that will benefit themselves. Please stay away!

Good Position for those who are dedicated to success
General Manager (Current Employee) –  Ontario3 March 2018
Good place to work if you are looking to advance your skill-set. Goals are clearly laid out for you but the manner of execution is governed by you. Some goals and time frames make for a very challenging environment but you are given enough autonomy to take risks and change your executions and sales behavior plans to reflect your market. You are treated as more of an entrepreneur who runs their own business then someone who manages one for a company.

Alot of unhappy employees here
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  Metrotown, BC22 January 2018
All the employees here are unhappy. The manager goes thru phases of being able to do her job one month to not doing her job well at all the next month. Very inconsistent managment. As well as your hours are not consistent. You could have 32 hours one week and 16 the next. The store always looks unorganized and not very clean. Dust everywhere. The manager also does not allow her staff to take 15 minute breaks if they work 7- 8.5 hours. The staff is also very lazy and does not always tell the truth when a customer asks for a shoe. Thats not their faults though. The manager shouldnt have a stock room on the other side of the mall that the staff dreads having to run to for sizes for customers. Which isnt allowed in the company. But the managers to lazy and selfish to properly organize the stock so the associates can actually serve customers in a timely manner.
Pros
Discount on shoes
Cons
Bad management

Very traditional, no work/life balance, no established culture
Financial Analyst (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON18 October 2017
Very traditional, no work/life balance, managers don't have leadership skills, don't appreciate staff's extra effort or over hours work. There is no established culture. Very high workload.

Great place to work!
Manager (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON5 April 2017
Town Shoes has come a long way since going corporate approximately 4 years ago. Its Head Office is small yet mighty!
It has definitely made many changes to enforce its focus on "PEOPLE FIRST" and has come a long way. Great place to work if you are someone who is self motivated and has an entrepreneurial spirit. Because of how quickly it is growing vs. the resources it has within the office - there are many opportunities to learn outside of your role and to expand your knowledge and experience.

The Shoe Company - Terrible
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Sudbury, ON27 March 2017
This is a terrible company to work for. They do not care about their associates . If you want a job where you work extremely hard and are not appreciated at all, then you should work for this company.

Worst place to work
Associate (Former Employee) –  Sherwood Park, AB27 January 2016
Management has you hound on costumers asking them 4-5 times if they need help when they say no each time. Costumers get irritated and walk out. Break schedule sucks because its bare minimum they want to give you. Never had a worse job. Only pro was the 30% off discount on everything
Pros
Good discounts
Cons
Boring, slow paced

A job that challenges your creativity and attention to detail
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB15 September 2015
Help clients find the perfect shoes, bag or accessories.
I learned about fashion trends and how to be able to multi task and be quick but diligent.
Also a job heavily based on building a strong team environment.
Management was helpful and always kept the team a number one priority.
Hardest part was being able to help multiple clients at once and making sure each client got excellent customer service.
Loved being able to help people find the right item for any occasion.
Pros
Working in a fashion driven environment
Cons
Not enough hours

Manager of Lasting Impressions (Former Employee) –  toronto30 July 2014
Lack of advancement opportunities. You will not succeed within this company without being there for many years. The management team is old and needs to be replaced due to being inclusive and unprofessional.
